Interesting Apps & Modules

The N2310 doesn't support all official Thecus modules, but that will hopefully change in the near future, though the hardware obviously sets the limits here. The following official applications are currently supported: Dashboard, Piczza, Plex, Transmission, which comes pre-installed, and WebDisk. We will take a look at most of them in the following paragraphs. There unfortunately is no module for IP camera monitoring and control, though even this NAS should come with a relevant application since today's NAS servers play a significant role in the implementation of security applications.

Thecus Dashboard Server

Install this application on the NAS for full access to all the features of the Thecus Dashboard on your iPhone or Android device.

T-OnTheGo

This module allows Apple iPhone and iPAD devices to connect to a Thecus NAS from anywhere in the world. All you need is an Internet connection. T-OnTheGo supports file upload and download and multimedia playback.

Plex Media Server

Plex easily allows you to stream all media stored on your NAS to other devices, like mobile phones, tablets, TVs, laptops, etc. It is a great program, which, however, takes CPU power or the right hardware accelerators to run smoothly, and the SoC of the N2310 is unfortunately not up to the task. We failed to reproduce both low- and high bitrate files.

Third Party Modules

Other modules by third-party developers are available. You will find most of them here, but will have to check on whether the application you pick is compatible with the N2310 and Thecus's OS6. Some interesting modules we saw were XBMC, which now has official Thecus support, though it definitely won't run properly on the N2310 because of its low hardware specifications, VLC, CouchPotato, etc.
