Administration Interface

With the initial configuration done, you will be taken to the Login page. The default password is "admin", so you should change it the first chance you get. The browsers Thecus recommends for properly navigating to the server's web interface are IE7 +, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.

Thecus wants to stay inline with the competition's fresh offers, so their operating system doesn't use a menu-driven interface anymore. It now comes with a more practical, windowed interface, which, however, still isn't up to the usability levels of QNAP's or Synology's solutions. Initially, only the Shared Folder and RAID Management shortcuts appear on the desktop, but you can easily add more.

The Control Panel icon is in the top-left corner of the desktop. All system settings can be found there. The Message Bar in the bottom-right corner gives you a quick overview of your system's status and keeps track of specific RAID-, disk-, and networking information. Clicking on the first two icons will also open up the RAID Management and Disk Information windows.

The Admin drop-down menu will allow you to change the admin's password, pick the language of the OS, and log out. The version number of the OS can also be found here.

The question mark right next to the Admin drop-down menu takes you to the Help panel. It comes with explanations for everything you may not understand. Next to it is the exclamation mark. It will provide you with access to the history log. A flashing firmware update icon will also appear in very top of the task bar should one be available.

There was an available firmware update for our sample, which we applied. However, the procedure wasn't as straightforward as we thought it would be with the Thecus Application Server app as we had to manually download the update in order to apply it with the aforementioned application.

Use the menu in the bottom-left corner to shut down or restart the NAS.

All NAS features and functions are a part of the Control Panel and are categorized into System Management, Storage, File Sharing/Privilege, Network Sharing, Application Sharing, Backup, and External Devices options.
