Thecus currently provides 21 modules on its product's
download page. We installed many of them and will briefly describe the most interesting in the following paragraphs.
Local Display
Enable the HDMI output function on your NAS! You can manage your NAS through a monitor plugged into its HDMI port after installing this module. To control the NAS directly, use a USB keyboard and mouse. A browser is already embedded into this package so you can browse the web and stream multimedia content.
Access Guard
Access Guard is designed to prevent unauthorized access to your NAS. It either allows or denies specific IP or MAC addresses.
Thecus Dashboard Server
Install this to your NAS for full access to all the features of the Thecus Dashboard on your iPhone.
Dropbox
Use this module to synchronize files and folders located on the NAS with your own personal Dropbox account. The Dropbox folder will automatically be saved to the cloud to make sure your data is safe.
IP Cam
For the latest IP CAM compatibility list, please see
this list. The N5550 supports up to five IP cameras.
NZBGet
NZBGet is a cross-platform, binary newsgrabber for nzb files. Written in C++, it supports client/server mode, automatic par-check/-repair, and web-interface. NZBGet hardly consumes any system resources to make sure it does not burden the hardware your NAS utilizes.
T-OnTheGo
This module allows Apple iPhone and iPAD devices to connect with a Thecus NAS from everywhere in the world through an internet connection. T-OnTheGo supports file upload and download and multimedia playback.
To have T-OnTheGo operational, you need to install two applications to the NAS and the client to your phone or tablet.
VirusScan module (McAfee Antivirus)
VirusScan, otherwise known as McAfee Antivirus, is the best safeguarding measure to detect and prevent virus attacks. Install VirusScan and your vital data is protected, with advanced features eliminating possible threats.
Its main features include the following:
- Removal of viruses, worms, and other malicious code
- Reliable and accurate detection without a costly false-alarm problem
- Effective scanning of compressed, archived, and packed files
- Scan engine SDK for easy integration into third-party applications
Third Party Modules
There are other modules available from third party sources/developers. You will find most of them in
this forum. Some interesting modules we noticed were XBMC, VLC, couchpotato, Plex Media Server, etc.
