Value & Conclusion

  • The Thermaltake Big Typhoon can be purchased at online retailers for about $40 to $60.
  • Wide compatibility
  • Cools other components as well
  • Excellent performance under heavy overclocking conditions
  • Quiet fan included
  • Fan can be replaced with other brands or styles easily
  • Huge size may not allow it to be used in smaller cases
  • Lengthy installation process
  • Base was not very flat or smooth
  • Can be expensive unless you find it on sale
The Thermaltake Big Typhoon certainly is a monster in both size and performance, and it even does well in heavily overclocked systems as long as you have the space for it. It is already compatible with the latest CPU's from both camps, and it might even be possible for future compatibility if Thermaltake makes new brackets for it. The fan is silent, but not quiet, and it can easily be swapped out with one more to your liking. I would have liked to see a better base on the Big Typhoon, but those that care more about the base could lap it to their liking and maybe knock off a degree or two.
If air cooling is your thing I would definitely recommend the Big Typhoon. It performs well enough to be able to handle almost anything you can throw at it.
