Thermaltake has done an excellent job with the design of the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB. The build quality and packaging are excellent. The heat spreader is simple, effective, and attractive, and the brushed black finish looks great against the white of the RGB LED diffuser. The "TT" logo integration as part of the design is an absolutely brilliant move. Speaking of RGB LEDs, the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB has one of the best implementations I have seen yet; a large diffusion bar with bright LEDs and a wide viewing angle. It has good stock lighting effects for those who eschew extra software, and excellent software support for those who want it. The Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB is compatible with the lighting software from all four major motherboard vendors, although Thermaltake's own RGB software is a step ahead of all of them with a better interface and more granular control of individual RGB LEDs.
Thermaltake didn't sacrifice performance in the name of fashion either as the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB performed well in testing. For overclocking, the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB proved to have a fair margin of overclocking headroom, reaching 3700 MHz stable with my ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 7 and Intel Core i9-9900K combo. Recent work with the Ryzen platform has been a good reminder of just how much the memory controller on your CPU can affect your overclocking results, so your mileage will vary. Still, a 500 MHz boost is a solid performance gain, especially at CL16.
Finally, we come to the price. The Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB comes in at US$119.99. That is quite a lot for DDR4 with these specifications, on par with the most premium kits from other brands. I do believe that the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB belongs in the ring with those other kits because Thermaltake has put together a compelling package. The aesthetic, build quality, performance, and, most importantly, RGB control is a step above anything else available at the moment. The Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB does command a premium price, but if you are in the market for an RGB DDR4 memory kit, I would highly recommend looking at the TOUGHRAM RGB.
