Value and Conclusion

  • The 16 GB (2x 8 GB) Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB 4600 MHz kit is available for around US$199.99.
  • Solid performance
  • Great RGB
  • Good software
  • RGB not for everyone
Thermaltake has done an excellent job with the design of the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB. The build quality and packaging are excellent. The heat spreader is simple, effective, and attractive, and the brushed black finish looks great against the white of the RGB LED diffuser. The "TT" logo integration as part of the design is an absolutely brilliant move. Speaking of RGB LEDs, the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB still has a great implementation; a large diffusion bar with bright LEDs and a wide viewing angle. It has good stock lighting effects for those who eschew extra software, and excellent software support for those who want it. The Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB is compatible with the lighting software from all four major motherboard vendors, although Thermaltake's own RGB software is a step ahead of all of them with a better interface and more granular control of the individual RGB LEDs.

Thermaltake didn't sacrifice performance in the name of fashion either as the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB performed well in testing. While I would have liked to see how this kit would fair on an Intel platform, my i9-9900K has never favored extreme frequency kits. For overclocking, the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB proved to have some overclocking headroom, reaching 4733 MHz stable with my MEG X570 ACE. When it came to tightening timings at 3600 MHz, the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB managed the "safe" preset. I would definitely recommend a 3600 MHz kit for those building with Ryzen CPUs.

Finally, we come to the price. The Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB 4600 MHz comes in at US$199.99. That is quite a deal for a kit of this specification. The aesthetic, build quality, performance, and RGB controls are excellent. If you are in the market for a high-speed memory kit with good looks to boot, check out the Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB.
