Tripowin TC-01 In-Ear Monitors Review - The Budget King!

Value and Conclusion

  • The Tripowin TC-01 is a recent release available in two color options and has an MSRP of $49, but currently costs $46.55 from the Linsoul web shop. As this is written, pricing is firm at MSRP elsewhere, including on the Linsoul Amazon store.
  • Very good value for money
  • Incredible bass response with lots of punch
  • High synergy with EDM and metal music genres
  • Comfortable to wear for long periods of time
  • Bright upper mids can potentially play well with hip-hop, jazz, and classical music
  • Smooth transition from bass to mids
  • Two color options to choose from
  • Good build quality, including with a filtered nozzle
  • Nice set of bundled accessories
  • Extremely recessed/non-existent mids with low detail for male vocals in particular
  • Treble range is still a weakness, especially past the ear canal resonance compensation
  • Weak imaging and narrow soundstage
I've said it before and I will say it again—I would rather companies stick to a plan and tune headphones/IEMs with their available resources cohesively rather than to hide weaknesses in the driver department. This often leads to alienating large swathes of the customer base, but potentially also leads to a cult following among those directly appealed to. Tripowin did exactly that with the TC-01 by going all in on the V-shaped curve for its tuning courtesy the single dynamic driver. The bass response is seen and heard alike, with so much energy that it begins strong and remains so throughout the transition to the mids. There might as well be completely recessed mids here, which it sure feels like, and it's almost like Tripowin put its foot on the brakes at the last minute for a traffic signal before flooring the gas again as you get into quite a bright upper mids zone that will again be a love or hate affair.

No one should claim these are balanced IEMs, or even the most technically competent in the sub-$100 price range. This is a sub-$50 set of IEMs, though! As long as you realize what you are getting into, very little will go wrong by buying these. They even look and feel premium courtesy the all-metal construction, smaller size, and ergonomic design with two vents to use these comfortably over long periods of time. I do like that there are two color options of which one is a fairly wild one at that. The Tripowin TC-01 is a wild card I was not expecting, especially after listening to and testing more expensive IEMs that are all about a neutral tuning. I definitely think there is a place for these bolder designs, and its current price tag just makes it easier to recommend further.
