UE BOOM 2 "Reka One - Lost Time" Edition Review

The Package

Despite being a limited edition unit, UE sticks to their handy cylinder-shaped box.

The bundle is the same as for other BOOM-branded units. You get a charger and a cable and that is it. Fortunately, that is all you need in order to use your BOOM.

One of the things that makes UE BOOM 2s a bit special, even the stock ones, is the color and print quality. The Reka One's colors really pop, and the choice of white as the base color makes it look nice and fresh. Normally, I would prefer a solid-colored one because of the simplicity of the shape, but the Reka design has really grown on me to a point where I think UE should be even more daring with their design choices by going beyond just adding crisp flashy colors to their devices. Of course, this is a personal preference thing, but I think anyone who has seen the Reka version is impressed.

Closer Examination

The "Reka One - Lost Time Edition" of the UE BOOM 2 is a colorful yet white affair. The rubber-coated parts are held in a plain white finish with red details for the volume buttons. The "Lost Time" artwork by Reka One looks pretty darn good on the cylindrical UE BOOM 2, from pretty much all angles. It looks good without being overly flashy, which we cannot say of our purple/orange sample, which in some sense is more crazy-looking than the "Lost Time" version.

The basic layout of the BOOM 2 is retained, and the top-slapping features are of course included as well. The shape and size of the UE BOOM and BOOM 2 are for that matter pretty close to perfect in terms of balancing portability with battery capacity and, of course, sound performance.

You'll find the USB plug and a mini-jack at the base of the UE BOOM 2, should you have a device that is not Bluetooth capable.
