Performance

UE BOOM 2s work great in pairs, much like the originals. The process of pairing a set of BOOMs consists of three simple steps. You fire up the app and hit the "Double Up" button, which brings you to a guide that tells you what to do. All you have to do is keep both powered up and connected to each other before double tapping the Bluetooth connect button on top and the speakers will do their trick. After the connection has been established, you get to select how you want them to play.

Stereo mode is an incredibly nice feature when using them together. As the units remember their configuration, they will automatically double up when they are in reach of each other. This makes it pretty hassle-free to use two at home while just grabbing one for use on the go.

Multiroom also has its uses, but you have to keep in mind that the Bluetooth is limited in range. If you have a lot of load-bearing walls, you will have trouble getting the signal through, but for normal drywalls, it should be ok. Using them in this mode is feasible but obviously also depends on how large your place is.

A side-by-side comparison of the UE BOOM 2 and MEGABOOM really shows the difference in volume clearly. The MEGABOOM is brilliant for use around the house, but I clearly prefer the size of the BOOM and BOOM 2 when having to carry one around.

App

The UE BOOM app has not changed much since its conception. The equalizer has been updated a few times, along with the alarm feature, but that is it. The app allows you to do firmware updates with ease and is really quick to navigate, and nothing is hidden as the maximum number of layers is limited to just two.
