Performance

To test the performance of the Vantec Nexstar Hard Drive Dock a Western Digital Caviar SE 160 GB drive was used. Performance was measured with HDTach 3.0.4.0.

USB 2.0

Testing the dock using the USB interface we find that it was able to maintain an average read speed of 34.6 MB/s which places the enclosure in a very competitive position with other enclosures tested at TechPowerUp in the past. The CPU utilization measured consistently at 8% and is average for the interface in comparison with the other enclosures as shown in the chart.

eSATA

The eSATA interface performance is in line with what you would expect from just connecting the hard drive to a SATA connector on the motherboard. These results were also consistently repeatable. The use of the eSATA interface makes backups and file transfers much quicker. Not all manufacturers include this interface at such a respectable price.
