Connectivity
On the video input front, the ViewSonic ELITE XG240R is equipped with a pair of HDMI 1.4 ports and a single DisplayPort 1.2. The monitor can run at Full HD/144 Hz regardless of the used interface. Next to the video inputs is a 3.5-mm audio output.
There are four more down-firing connectors on the rear: one for the built-in power supply (standard IEC plug) and three USB 3.0 ports, of which one is upstream (USB-B) and two are downstream (USB-A). There are no additional USB ports on any of the sides of the monitor. The position of the two available USB 3.0 ports makes that you'll use them with your USB memory sticks or SD card readers highly unlikely, as they're a hassle to reach. I guess the idea is that you'll use them for your peripherals, although no serious gamer would consider connecting their keyboard and mouse to anything other than the motherboard.
Just in case you're interested in the time it takes the monitor to switch from one input to the other, as well as display a picture after you press the power button on your PC case, here are the measurements of those parameters.
Power-On & Input-Switching Speed |
---|
Power-On Time | 11 s |
Input-Switching Time | 2 s |
Signal Detection Time | 2 s |
Power Consumption
The monitor has a built-in power supply. I used a power meter to determine the power consumption of the monitor at various brightness levels, as well as in sleep mode. My power consumption measurements are summed up in the chart below. They were made after resetting the monitor to its factory defaults and adjusting the brightness as stated in the table.
The numbers are in line with what we'd expect from a 24" gaming-grade monitor. As per usual on consumer-grade monitors, actual brightness is not even close to being linear in relation to the percentile brightness values chosen via the OSD.
