Heatkiller V eBC Backplate

Speaking of unfinished packaging, I had also requested a sample of the new Heatkiller V eBC backplate for the RTX 3080/3090 reference PCB to go with the block itself, and it shipped inside a few layers of bubble wrap, which I suppose does the packaging job far better than most boxes. Again, expect to see packaging in line with the other items, but underneath is what you will likely see anyway—everything coming inside another, larger sealed plastic bag.

As with the GPU block, Watercool includes a color-printed assembly instructions guide which also assumes you have the respective Heatkiller V GPU block. In terms of thermal pads, it is split into three sections—universal for both the RTX 3080 and 3090 reference PCB and a separate section for each since the VRAM layout on the back of the PCB is different on the two. The thermal pads come marked accordingly, which helps a lot. We also get eight longer M2.5 TORX screws to replace some of those from the GPU block installation, and these are black to better match the black anodized backplate. It is all aluminium and fairly thick at that, aiming to add some more cooling in addition to mechanical stability and PCB protection in the case of any leaks in the loop. There is also the Heatkiller logo on the bottom-left corner, which you will see in a typical horizontal GPU installation.

The contact surface is buffed out far less, but still machined for good contact. As always, do not associate machining marks with production quality or how good the contact will be. The overall shape is primarily rectangular except for some small indents at the bottom and a light extension at one side. Eight holes help with the installation, and there are some interesting contact patterns, too.
