Westone UM2 Earphones Review

Value and Conclusion »

Durability

The durability of the UM2s is quite good considering their design. Since they are built in a very hard and strong type of plastic they can easily withstand daily wear and tear. The UM2s are only shipped with two pairs of short foam tips and two long. Even though the Comply foam tips are very durable compared to traditional foam tips they will still become dirty and a bit nasty over time because of ear wax.

I have been using and abusing the Comply foam tips that came with the UM2s for a little over a week and used the earphones many hours a day and the foam tips are coping quite well. The end of the tips are beginning to become a bit slippery and have begun to change color a bit. Structure wise the tips are still intact, they still have the same expanding qualities as when I first started using them which is very good considering that I have had them off like ten times the past week during the course of my testing.

Comfort

The design of the Westone UM2s is very good and the canal piece has the right angle for easy insertion into the ear. Coupled with the Comply foam tips these are the most comfortable earphones I have tried to date. The fit between ear and the foam tips was perfect and the foam put just enough pressure against your ear in order to stay in place and block out ambient noise. Even after listening sessions of several hours my ears were not irritated. I think that most people will agree that the Comply foam tips make for an extremely comfortable and air tight fit.
