Packaging and Accessories
Please note that the unboxing experience for the Wooting 80HE will depend slightly on whether you opt for the plastic chassis or the metal one. With the latter, I understand you will get a travel case that contains the keyboard and other accessories, whereas here we see a more traditional cardboard product box which comes adorned in gray and has the brand logo, the product name, and a neat render of the keyboard composed of "Wooting" in black and white lettering that looks like the keyboard from a few feet away—just don't get too close. This continues on the sides too, where we also see specific information about the keyboard inside. A double flap helps keep the contents in place during transit, and opening the box reveals the keyboard placed under a hard plastic dust cover, with the various accessories underneath or in the separately marked compartment. You are prompted to use the
online quick start guide as opposed to a printed one, this allows Wooting to have a far more detailed guide to walk you through setup and use of the keyboard.
The accessories include a two-tone keyboard cable going from USB Type-C on one end to Type-C (w/Type-A adapter) on the other, a warning note for those who have the module version of the 80HE, and a large biodegradable plastic bag that contains other things, including some smaller single-use, biodegradable plastic bags. We get two sets of replacement keyboard feet, some spare keycaps and screws, spare Lekker L60 V2 and L45 V2 switches, and a combo keycap puller and switch remover tool. This is probably the best of the plastic ring-style pullers, and yet I'd much rather see Wooting use separate, metal wire-style pullers. It's arguably more useful than having spare switches, and—spoiler alert—the keyboard price certainly feels like you should get better accessories here. Of course, these options and others are available—for a surcharge—on the online store.
