Introduction

XMG Logo

XMG as a brand has been around since 2009. In the nearly 14 years since then, they have released numerous desktop and laptop PCs that all feature a directive on high-end gaming; founded by gamers, the XMG brand has truly been focused on setting the bar for high-end portable gaming. One of the ways they do that in today's market is by offering watercooled laptops, one of the most recent of which is here with me today. The XMG NEO 17 is a no-holds-barred laptop with high-end parts and features, including full-power NVIDIA mobile GPUs, with up to a TGP total of 175 W available. Those GPUs are mated with AMD's mobile flagship CPU Ryzen 9 6900HX, a 45 W monster 16-thread/8-core CPU, with unlocked limits.

The XMG NEO 17 (M22) is a laptop with uncompromising options. Not only does it feature high-performance parts, it also features some truly capable cooling, leading to the ultimate in low-noise mobile gaming. Here's what XMG says:

"The XMG NEO 17 is the undisputed benchmark for uncompromising laptop performance – with high-end components including maxed-out power limits, an impressive cooling system and features that are second to none. Mechanical CHERRY MX ULP Tactile switches form the foundation for a uniquely precise keyboard that sits alongside a high-resolution G-SYNC display with 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, 240 Hz, high colour space coverage and a 16:10 format: tailor-made for gamers and creatives! With two SO-DIMM sockets for up to 64 GB of slot-in DDR5 RAM and two M.2 slots for fast PCIe 4.0 SSDs, the NEO 17 is truly future-proof. It is also compatible with current VR headsets and is XMG OASIS Ready."

A watercooled laptop just seems like an oddity that few might consider, yet at its core, although the XMG NEO 17 is built for high-end gaming, it manages to do so without all the noise that some other high-end laptops are plagued by, and the optional OASIS LCS just takes that a step further, and then delivers a level of sonic load characteristics that matches many laptops at idle. Add in that VR support, and you've got my attention for sure, and the XMG NEO 17 should capture your attention too, as this laptop isn't just about gaming, but also creating.
