Surface

The pad was tested with laser and optical mice. While some may still use an old fashion mouse ball, it will certainly not be in a gaming environment where mice and mouse pads have become an important asset. The following mice were used to test the XTracPads Pro mouse pad:
  • Logitech MX Revolution
  • Sharkoon Rush Laser Mouse
  • Logitech MX518
The Logitech MX Revolution is one of the most advanced mice out there, but is not necessarily considered a gaming mouse. The Sharkoon Rush Laser Mouse on the other hand is geared toward gamers and offers a variable DPI setting between 400 and 2000 DPI. The Logitech MX518 is one of the most successful optical gaming mice and is still commonly used today as the weapon of choice.

The surface has a very smooth surface and it is definitely not a very "fast" pad. Any mouse became noticeably slower when used in combination with the Pro pad. The accuracy is raised accordingly and mouse clicks are almost perfectly placed. This makes this pad perfect for strategy games but somewhat too slow for action games.

Size

The XTracPads Pro is the smallest mouse pad I have ever used. It only measures 8.5" x 11". I am a high sensitivity gamer, which means that I do not require a lot of space to complete long mouse movements. The small size, coupled with the slow speed and great accuracy underline the fact that this pad is made for strategy games and point and click games more than fast pasted action shooters which may require long and speedy movements.

Comfort

The Pro is refreshingly thin, but still stays in place quite nicely. The bump in height is just slightly noticeable, but the soft surface makes it quite comfortable to use. While the XTracPads Pro may have a very traditional feel to it at first, the above attributes combine for a very well rounded and comfortable experience.

Durability

As the pad is made of cloth and foam, it can be rolled up as well. It cannot be damaged by rolling it up too tight as it is just thick enough to avoid stretching of the surface cloth. This makes it great for LAN parties as it is durable and small. The edges of the pad may come apart a bit faster than expected, even tough the cut is sharp and clean. The only thing keeping the cloth together is the adhesive to the foam part.
