A Closer Look
The FSP Windale 6 is comprised of 54 aluminum fins which are fed the heat via 6 heatpipes. A black plating on the fins makes for a nice dark look that has a matte finish.
The design is typical of most tower coolers in that it consists of a large chunk of metal fins with U-shaped heatpipes. This cooler's fin assembly is of a solder-less louvered design.
The top plate has a matte black finish just like the rest of the fins, with "FSP" stamped in. Even the heatpipes got the black treatment. Only the base is bare copper, and only right where the heatpipes make contact with the CPU. Speaking of which, the base is flat, but not completely smooth. You can feel the gaps between the heatpipes and the surface is slightly rough. It's not bad by any means, but feels like there are tiny scratches. A bit more polish here would have been nice.
The black and gray 120 mm CF12P12 fan included by FSP features blue LEDs and has a PWM range of 1000-1600 RPM. Maximum CFM is listed at 60. The fan is quite interesting with the frame design being different from the prototypical 120 mm fans seen day to day.
