SIM - System Intelligent Management

Installation Procedure

As mentioned before, the SIM functionality consists of the hardware part and of the software application. Installing the software is done quickly and painlessly. It does not require a restart after completion. This means that you may use it right away to control and monitor your system.

SIM Control Application

The software needs to be set to the right type of chassis first. As you can see from the screenshots above, it was set to the Ra X10 at the beginning. Once you have changed to the correct case type, the image changes to the Zaria A20, while the control panel remains the same. There is a large on/off switch to turn the blue LEDs off, if you wish. Certainly a nice feature, which is only possible due to the separate power routing of the LEDs.

Each of the four fan areas can be set seperately to react to heat build up in a certain way. Note I said four, but the dual side fan array counts as one. So there is still space to add that missing fan to the SIM. The temperature of the diodes can be read on the right area, while the rotational speed has been placed toward the left. During the test, no thermal diodes were connected, thus the system mentions 0 degrees. You may place the diodes anywhere within the case, which gives you the needed flexibilty to monitor any type of hardware configuration. You may also switch between °C and °F, thus the software should be easily usable globally.

To give you an idea how to set the fans, I have selected one of four main templates, which is quite interesting. Here you can select the temperature at which the selected fan starts spinning. Anything below that point and the cooler remains off. There are two variants (A or B), one starts at 95°F while the other gets going at 122°F. Such a setting can be coupled with a thermal sensor to report back temperatures. In the image above the front fan is selected, so the thermal diode should be somewhere in the same area of the case, preferably the hard drives. The software also offers a Performance mode, in which all the fans run at full speed, a silent mode to keep the fans noise to a minimum and a fanless option, which turns off the selected fan. Remember, you may choose any of these settings for each fan area seperately, so you may choose to let some coolers running, while turning off others.
