Kontron Releases the KBox C-102-4 with Four PCIe Slots

Kontron, a leading global provider of Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), introduces a new member of its high-end industrial computer platforms for control cabinet environments - the Kontron KBox C-102-4. The new model allows the integration of up to four PCIe expansions slots and is thus ideally suited for users requiring a large number of additional interfaces, industrial I/Os, or fieldbuses.

The KBox C-102 series is now available in four alternative design variants: the compact KBox C-102-0 without additional expansion slots, the KBox C-102-1 and KBox C-102-2 with one or two PCI(e) expansion slots respectively, and the new KBox C-102-4 with four PCI(e) expansion slots. The industrial computers are used mainly for control, visualization, and inspection in the production process.
All systems in the KBOX C-102 series are equipped with high-performance 6th generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processors or Intel Xeon E3 1500 v5 series CPUs for even more demanding performance requirements. Due to their maintenance-free system design without either fans or batteries they offer a significantly prolonged lifespan and high system availability. Their modular structure based on the standardized COM Express technology results in highly flexible, scalable systems. Automation vendors and OEM customers in machine and plant engineering further profit from efficient and extremely flexible customization options, allowing for quick customer-specific adjustments without design risks or additional development costs.

As part of the Kontron Security Solution series, the KBox C-102 family supports Kontron's Security Solution APPROTECT. In tandem with a specifically developed software framework it provides full IP and copy/reverse engineering protection through its integrated WIBU-Systems security chip. Kontron APPROTECT Licensing also enables new business models such as 'pay per use', time based trial versions, or enable/disable features.

Additionally, the Kontron KBox C-102 series supports Kontron WideLink, a technology that implements data communication between a remote visualization unit and control computer through a standard CAT6a Ethernet cable at up to 100 meters distance from the control computer. This enables efficient and ergonomic visualization solutions in especially complex and expansive production facilities.

All KBox C-102 versions come with three IEEE1588 Gbit Ethernet ports, two USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports each, one DisplayPort, one RS232 port, and one SD card slot in addition to two internal mSATA slots, as well as up to two SSD/HDD slots including RAID functionality. Additional system extensions can be easily realized using Kontron's proprietary adapter board for additional graphics-, COM- and CAN ports as well as PCIe or two Mini-PCIe slots according to individual requirements.

No RS-48 that's a little odd.
