I did select the named alternative
modDYI USB 3.2 Gen 1 Motherboard Header 19 Pin Internal USB Hub Controller
That is surprisingly cheaper that the Amazon Sabrent Hub. 7-8 Euros per part. That's over 10%. Nevertheless it'll take 3 weeks to get it and after i will have to print a closed and also individual case for protection.
I suppose you could use something like Thermal Grizzly TG-Shield to protect it but printing a case for it sounds like more fun for your custom build.

Thanks for the link. We found the same.

Printing is real cool. Everything is possible. Even lamps for a writing desk. I would take ABS alike Resin. There is a hole in the middle which i can use. Additionally something to snapin. I will for sure have to order more resin. But to get the piece and starting the design takes a bit of time. Till it passes to borders,... i will have to pay taxes and the VAT additionally.

It will get the same build like my FDM printer. There i ordered rods for. Manufactured in Hawaii. :D

Hi together,

I just ordered the MODDiy USB 19-Pin 1:2 Splitter with SATA-powersupply. It will take between 14-21 days for delivery as it comes from HongKong. To put it into a box i also ordered 5 bottles/liters ABS-Like Resin to print one. The third order today was more for my reha. It is a new orthese. Originally i would have been able to get it paid by my health insurance. But then i would have to visit a hell of doctors (ph.d.). And that really takes time when one sits in a wheelchair. Always three parties need to have time available. The Doc, me and the driving service. So i paid fot the orthese 200€ and get it next week.

Within this month i will buy a bit more for the new build. I have a list with all the needed parts. So let's see which one will be deleted.

Slowly it's getting to an end of the sourcing. Today i did it (ordering) again.

I searched for a 90° angled adapter for the 6Pin PCIe Powercable that needs to be connected to the mainboard. I did not like to have it routed as it would be in general. I got an 24 Pin Adapter to have the main powercable going straight to the right. I did want to have it the same with the smaller 6 Pin Cable next to that big 24Pin cable. So i researched a lot to find such an adapter. In general a lot of 180° adapters are offered. But those ones are for a GPU And i do not have space. I found exactly one adapter by Singularity. Abd that i ordered. I hope that it will fit from start on otherwise i would have to resolder that.

As an indicator that the system is running i planned to take a dRGB stripe for both sides of the system. One more LED Stripe is intended for the Heatkiller. Watercool doesn't offer an enlightened cooler. And that has to be done by me. Additionally i also orderen the Watercool HEATKILLER IV PRO (AMD, AM4, AM5) ACRYL HWLuxx Edition. With that i feel much better as it is proven to suit on a AM5 socket. I have one of them sitting on my 3800x and it works quite well.

With the end of this month i will have quite less things to order. Nevertheless this will be the most expensive things. In meantime i will have to design and print a CPU Cooler cover/LED mounting bracket and a cover for the GPU Cooler. Quite a bit to design and to do.

the CPU Cooler (Watercool Heatkiller IV AM5 HWLUXX Edition) has been delivered today. Straight after i started to test the frame for the aRGB Stripe.

Today I got that Moddiy USB 3.2 Gen 1 Motherboard Header 19 Pin Internal USB Hub Controller (Type: 19-Pin to 2 x 19-Pin) delivered. Exactly i foung it in my PO Box. In the package has been the electronics and the needed cables. Additionally i found twi addhesive labels for mounting. But no case or anything similar. Within the next days i will have to design a kind of box that will encapsulate the electronics. The stripes can be used to stick the box anywhere inside the case. Now i await one more package from a local distributor with more needed parts by EKWB. If everything will fit together i can start to order the last parts for this rig.

The last order i made at 11.10.2023 went horribly. The deale, one of the big ones within germany didn't deliver. Even threadening didn't work. So i had to get to the court and i had to file charges. I got the package far to late. But one item was missed. They did announe to send it but they didn't. I'm still in contacxt to the police to get back the money for that order. If the prosecutor follows my thoughts the CEO will have to go to jail for up to 3 years. The accusation is goods fraud in combination with pretending false facts. That remembers me to my grandmom. She alweays said: "Business is like a pond of sharks. Don't forget that. You don't want to be a carp in there".

Hello,

I got all the orders including the alternately ordered Leak Tester. Also i started to design the cable channels. I really need'em to get aolle the Adapters and cables built into the case. I have real rare space to get all the cables clean routed to where they should be. I'm still missing (didn't routed and built in) the last tubes for the GPU. Then i have to connect the last cables/adapters to the Mainboard. Also the powercables aren't connected yet. It's still quite a lot to do. I hope that the bought Zalman fans are working. If not and i have to substitute them i will drive nuts and get suicidal. at least possibly. Definitely i will have a bottle of whiskey upfront that exchange. :D

I had my doubts about those zalman fans but no reason for it to be "the end" - just replace with some that are designed for static pressure - and save the whiskey to celebrate a completed successful build.

To be honest. I will not replace any part as long as it has no evidence that it cannot do the defined job. The fans haven't shown yet that they aren't strong enough to provide the needed static pressure. I really don't know why i should work based on thoughts and doubts. I have studied too long at universities (of applied sciences) to work in an amateur way. I belong to work only based on evidence.

After buying the two Data SSD i will have a budget freeze till end of the year. Christmas time is starting and everybody buys like no goood. So the prices raises. Straight after Holy night the prices will fall to the normal level again. Possibly i will get the GPU straight after. I contacted Watercoll about a cooler. In detail i did want to know if that cooler fits to a certain GPU. Some manufactorers and shops say yes, some say nothing. But i don't want to send back all parts ecause they don't fit at all. A small email in advance of the buy will solve that easily. The support was unexpevted fast. I( wrote that mail on Saturday and expected an answer within 7 days. On Monday at 08:30 i had the answer. Wow about that!

I'm thinking to buy two new monitors after the rig. 2 * 40", 2 * UWQHD, 2 * 155Hz. Those two monitors have to be served by the GPU. Also the GPU has to be watercooled to fit into my cooling concept. The GPU should have a minimum VRAM of 16GB. And it has to have a reasonable price. There are not that much possibilities on GPU's that suit all the written topics. First i thought about an Intel Arc 770. Now there is a cooler available by Bykski. But the price of the GPU on its own is far away from being reasonable. An AMD RX7800XT would fit my needs. but there is no cooler available. At least i didn't found one. Then there were only two more. An AMD RX 6950XT and an AMD RX 7900XT. The pure power of those cards are much to high for my needs. But there are coolers available for those two. At all in germany they are cheaper than a NVidia 4070TI with a water cooler. At least round about 200€.

At a different thread i was told that AlphaCool will provide a GPU Cooler for the Radeon RX7800XT at least in Reference Design. So i decided to buy Coolers for my RAM and also for my 4 SSD's. I don't think that i will face throttling on that components. All the coolers and the Connectors will cost me 320€. The GPU on it's own will save me 250€ or more if i will take a reference RX7800XT from Sapphire. The risk i have to take is that i will need an additional 2nd D5 pump to ensure that the flow rate is high enough. To see if that will apply i also added a flowindicator to my basket.

So i kick another two orders with an amount of 362€ out to the deliverers. But therefor i will save on the GPU on it's own. In germany we say that it is a null sum calculation. But hey. I feel much better with that.

So my order for this month is:

At Alphacool directly and also

At Galaxus (a german daughter of the swiss DigiTec).

Everything came. Then i realized that i need more Fittings. They are needed behind the distroplate. So i ordered EKWB EK-Quantum Torque STC 10/16 - 6er-Pack in black. They should not be visible. Surprisingly they are over 10€ cheaper than that Satinb Titanium ones. The second pump incl. the pump top are not available right now. That will be at least at 08.01.2024.

I wish it would be half a year earlier or later. In fact winter is shitty here. The Daylight is so dark and missing. In my appartment i need to switch on the Light every single day. I'm living at the base of a valley surrounded by hills. The sun gets over the hills at least at 08:00 and goes down again at 16:00. With that daylight one doesn't see what he is doing. So i have to wait til i get more light. In Meantime i can prepare sone things like the new mounting plate for the AquaComputer electronics. The redesign i did shows an different angle. I got from 60° to 80°. I hope that this change will bring me a bit more space.

I also thought about athe power of one D5 Pump, the amount of angles, coolers and radiators in my loop. I don't think that the pump is powerful enough to keep the flow in a reliable array. So i decided to take a second pump. With that second pump and the wish of having the system tun mainly with Linux i had also to rethink about the controllers. Generally i realized that i need Windows for the whole configuration. Only the AquaComputer Aquaero Pro supports Linux natively. So i also selected that one. I have a Drive slot free and printed a cover for. So i will habe to substitute the cover by the Aquaero Pro. I wiilol also add a cooling device specially for the Aquaero. All of that is already included in my project plan. To get a full BOM will be a hell of fun.

Have you counted the number of 90 degree angles including distroplate connections?

I have 45° angles at the CPU Cooler, 90° Angles not only at the distroplate, I also have a inline filter in my loop. I track my bought and built in stuff in a BOM. So I know all the time how much of what i got and use.

The last order for this month:

I don't like that kits in general. They deliver a lot of tools one doesn't need. But first. it is rebated. Second: I will have enough tools to seperate the RAM headspreader and the bar on it's own. I need to do that because of the Cooler i got for the RAM. iFixIt didn't provice a delivery date. So let's see when it comes.

In preparation of my next order. I ask myself what is better. To implement two equal pumps or two from different manufactorers. At one hand two same pumps may reduce the effect of "fighting" against each other. I suppose that they run the same speed if one PWM Level is used for both. On the other hand using two different ones reduce the risk of having a fault when one become broken. That quwstion seems not that easy as every pro seems to have a contra. In Detail: Should i use two times the same AlphaCool D5 Apex pump or one and i.e. one Aqua Computer D5 PWM.

Btw: The iFixIt kit made it to DHL this morning. What i miss is a TrackingID provided by the german iFixIt Shop.

To give an impression when i say that i'm working at my rig.

I need to design a cable chamber for all the cables in the frontchamber (Mainboard). It is not that easy as i want to have all channels connected to have a clean view. In the next picture you see the channels in a design program:
Screenshot (67).png

After everything is designed and exported the designed model needs to be sliced in a special program. Therrefor i used in this case Chitubox. In the next picture the model is placed on the virtual Buildplate ready to be sliced:
Screenshot (68).png Screenshot (69).png

After I pressed the Slice-Button the program prepares a file that is understood by the 3D-printer. The program also tells how long the print cpossibly will be and how much material (Resin) is used for the print:
Screenshot (70).png

Each layer of a print is a less than a mm high. In my printers case 0,05mm. The program slices the model into a certain amount of layers and define which Led's of the build in screen has to be enlightened. So per layer a picture is generated. At the end all pictures are written into a single file ready to be transferred to the printer. I'm not that theoretical guy. I grew up working with metal. So i design step by step. I design the first chanel. Then the second one. Both are connected and the errors are fixed. Then the story starts again with a third channel. Designing, connecting printing and fixing. So it goes on till everything is fine. This two channels took me a week of working on.
