OCZ Technology Announces Vertex 2 and Agility 2 Solid State Drives

OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory and flash-based storage as an alternative to hard disk drives (HDDs), today unveiled the Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SATA II 2.5" Solid State Drive (SSD) Series. These are new enthusiast-class SSDs designed for consumers who are seeking unprecedented speed and reliability with the goal of enhancing both their daily computing experience and long-term productivity.

"OCZ's original Vertex Series of solid state drives have become a top seller due to the product's exceptional performance and reliability," said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology Group. "The new Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSD lines continue that tradition by incorporating the latest controller and firmware technology. They are an excellent solution for customers who are looking for improved transfer rates and best-in-class input/output per second (IOPS) for a wide range of uses, ranging from entertainment to workstation and tier 2 storage applications. Additionally, this new product line highlights our continuing determination to be the market leader in the high reliability memory and flash-based storage market."
Building on the features that distinguished their highly acclaimed predecessors, the Vertex 2 and Agility 2 incorporate a cutting-edge new controller design that delivers superior performance across the board. As the higher-end option, the Vertex 2 excels in 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS and features transfer rates up to 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write. For the value-conscious enthusiast, Agility 2 provides similar performance at a lower price point and delivers identical read/write rates and 4KB random writes up to 10,000 IOPS.

OCZ Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSDs not only provide a faster, more responsive PC experience, but also promote cooler, quieter and more energy-efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the drives easily integrate into today's mobile and desktop platforms and feature TRIM support for Windows 7 systems. Available in 50GB, 100GB, 200GB, and 400GB capacities, Vertex 2 and Agility 2 will begin shipping in the next few weeks through OCZ's extensive global channel. Both series come backed by a three-year warranty and OCZ's dedicated technical support for ultimate peace of mind.

They brag so much about better SSD reliability, but they give only 3 year warranty. I'd expect them to give at least 5 years if not even 10. That's what you get on most flash USB drives...

I agree it sounds great on paper and this new controller is suppose to be great but 3 years  Wow nice to see them stand behind there product.. I wait for benches to come out with a raid 0 config. I am really not happy with OCZ products, and I must say OCZ is the worse company with giving rebates back.

When will we see them on the market ? This is starting to shape like a truly viable alternative to the Intel SSD's. If they have a comparable price, that is.

Their last generation drives were comparable to the X-25M G2... this is quite a bit beyond at least in terms of theoretical performance. 3 years warranty is a bit low, but part of it is the cost of having to replace it down the road, I wouldn't expect these models to be selling in 3 years time, so if you RMAed at the end of the third year they'd be giving you a whole new product probably several generations ahead of this one....

I agree it's nice to see longer ones, but they're probably just going to attach a 5 year warranty to their highest end drives in an effort to make them more justified for the price.

4K @ 50,000... so we are looking at 200MB/sec at the lowest end. Sounds like fluffing to me - I hope I'm wrong ;)

Good one Zads.
@Lucky, yes they suck ass for their Rebates.

However, writes and reads are both creeping up and I love the IOPS boost. Is the new controller they are using the one that was posted about a couple weeks back? I cant remember the name but I know it isnt idilinx, samsung, or toshiba.

Before the original X25-M, very few SSD drives broke the 20MB/s barrier on 4K random writes on an MLC drive. 200MB/s 4KB random write is blazingly fast.

4KB random read is the one you actually feel though in day to day desktop OS performance (in conjunction with the normal sequential read / write numbers).

That's actually 1 year more then some of the other Sandforce SF-1200 that's coming, so yeah its :nutkick: how we see the trust in this new processor that has Advanced Error Correction and Intelligent Wear Leveling highlighted as some of the main selling points.
