NVIDIA Releases GeForce 197.55 WHQL Drivers for GeForce 400 Series Products

NVIDIA released its latest version of the GeForce driver suite, version 197.55, specific to the GeForce GTX 400 series graphics cards. The WHQL-signed drivers don't announce any more changes than a major feature change - official support for 4-way SLI on both GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470. The drivers only work with GeForce 400 series products. No Release Notes documents were published along with the drivers.

That is quite funny.

Good luck finding four Fermi boards.

This is pretty much a driver release so that a couple of websites will be able to 'officially' test 4-way SLI.

They do this with every new GPU release, they eventually pick back up driver support for the older cards.

This driver is GTX400 only because the only change made in the driver effects only GTX400 cards. No point in getting WHQL certification for all their previous cards if all this driver does is add Quad-SLi on the GTX400 cards.

this driver specifically adds quad GPU support.

why would they release it for older cards, or an OS that doesnt support that feature?

hmm yeah.. come to think of it, I remember Evga having their own version of GTX285 for a 4 way sli mode.. so 4 way sli needs hardware level support i guess..

I think I'm gonna hold out for mobile 4xx series laptop. Was looking at some sweet Asus laptop with gts330m and couldn't resist any longer... Maybe by the end of the year all laptop will use SSD and equip with Bluray drive :) I'm just hoping.
