AMD Releases Catalyst 11.5b Hotfix Update

AMD was a little too early in May with its monthly Catalyst driver release, with the Catalyst 11.5 WHQL reaching the web as early as 9th May (typically monthly Catalyst updates are released after the 24th). On the same date, AMD also released its first hotfix update for the Catalyst 11.5, the 11.5a Hotfix Update, which packed a number of game-specific performance improvements. Today, the company released its second such update for the month, with Catalyst 11.5b Hotfix.

The update is rushed in to fix a number of issues found with the recently-released game, Brink. It also fixes a number of non-gaming application issues, particularly related to media decoding. In the process, the driver also brings with it a number of game-specific performance improvements, games including Civilization 5, Dead Rising 2, Fallout 3, Mafia 2, NBA 2010, ShenGuiChuanQi, Starcraft 2, Warcraft III, World of Warcraft, and Dirt 3.

I'll have to try these out this weekend on the witcher 2! I haven't been able to play yet due to work and spending time with the gf. Hopefully there will be a nice performance boost!

Yes, huge FPS gains. With "Ubersampling" off, I'm hitting around 100fps. It's actually playable with Ubersampling on. Only problem is a glitch with the bloom effect indoors.

I am only using a HD 5870 and these are giving me good performance in most games with no issues at all. Also vsync probs I was having in some titles seem to have cleared up completely.

Dirt 3 @ 2048x1536, DX11 maxed with 16xAF and 8XAA is smooth as silk even though it's staying constantly below 60fps. Nice drivers.

11.5 a caused the eyefinity cursor curoption issue to occur 3-4 times/day after it was like 1-2 times per month with the last 3 drivers. Lets hope it's fixed in this release.

Seriously. Is that a typo or what? I can't believe they're still testing / improving the driver for WC3.
