AMD In for Total Restructuring, Executive Layoffs at Hand

In a move that could "ruin a lot of people's Christmas," as TechEye puts it, it is learned that AMD is headed for executive layoffs. The company's new CEO, Rory Read apparently sees value in a leaner, more efficient organization. This, despite rather positive third quarter results, where AMD bagged $1.69 billion in revenue and $97 million in profit. The CEO is eying total restructuring, according to sources. As expected, AMD refused to comment.

Meanwhile in other news, Intel's CEO was seen shooting bullets made of diamond from a golden revolver into the sky whilst smoking cigars rolled out of crisp 100 dollar notes.

Let's hope this is a good thing at AMD and it doesn't mean the start of something bad. But let's face it, management restructuring isn't something a confident and stable company does. I hope Rory Read turns out to be a business genius. I really do.

Well it's better to lay off people now rather come Christmas time. It seems the new CEO is going to do some massive re-structuring within AMD.

I hope that this only deals with the CPU side. They still know how to make a GPU, and laying people off that do the only thing that they're still good at would be stupid.

It's always nice to see people flock in who haven't read the article or bothered to read the current news. AMD had it's first quarter of profits in 10 quarters, I see that as a pretty damn good sign. Remember, AMD released more than just Bulldozer, the APUs are doing great. I think restructuring isn't a bad thing for them as Bulldozer wasn't as great as expected, so some better management is a good thing.

Let's hope the restructuring gives them smoother operations that leads them to increased relative market share against Intel and Nvidia. Competition in this field is a good thing, and I for one don't want to see one of the big players fall too far behind.

What man would that be? I don't see any names in the article.

Plenty of firms undergo restructuring and make a complete recovery too, that point was invalid.

Now when they say executives, do they just mean executive ordered? Pretty sure they just fired 10% of their work force. You know, the people who actually do stuff.

Hopefully they just swipe off the fat, culling marketroids and such, but keeping all their engineers.

Icronticare reporting that Carrell Killebrew ( the man behind Eyefinity) and Patrick Moorhead are amongst those getting booted

Not as many as go under or end up a shadow of their former selves.
I'll go with my original reaction upon hearing of SuperRory's appointment:
[Rory Read]...BoD glove puppet, who has been given the job as Abu Dhabi's stalking horse. Time will tell on that one.
Sure as hell PR and marketing all deserve culling (pity Dessau and Fruehe aren't mentioned), but axing engineers ??
AMD are supposedly keen to cut out the deadwood and trim salary expenditure....how many board members are getting shown the door ? . If I were a gambling man- and I am- I'd put the number at 0 (zero)

hmmm maybe they are actually laying off bigwigs and giving more attention to the engineers. I hope that's what they are doing
