New Double Fine Adventure Game Funded by Fans

Shacknews is reporting a new adventure game from Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert, and the rest of the Double Fine Productions gang is on its way, having hit its funding goal of $400,000 only eight hours after launching a crowd-funding plan. What's more, Double Fine is now having "a lovely chat" with Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson about his offer to fund a Psychonauts sequel.

"If I were to go to a publisher right now and pitch an adventure game, they'd laugh in my face," Schafer said in a video for the KickStarter project. So Double Fine turned to its fans, seeking $300,000 to fund a new adventure game and $100,000 for video game documentary team 2 Player Productions to record its progress. The project launched at 6pm Pacific on Wednesday, and reached the $400,000 mark a touch over eight hours later.
Who knows if this will set a trend or not. One can only hope financial endeavors like this will reboot long forgotten licenses. Marathon anyone?

**edit**
TMM has changed the title now - thanks :toast:

**original**
Bit of a misleading title as Notch hasn't agreed to fund a sequel to psychonaughts - he has offered to and they are in discussions with him. Tim Schafer has said that agreeing on funding for psychonaughts 2 will take a while to approve as there is a lot of terms and other things that would need covering.

Ya know you are right. I just felt since he offered then he would follow through. I adjusted the title until confirmed. :toast:

Aye, read about it on Arstechnica a few days ago. Would be great if they do it.

I would rather see a sequel/conclusion to The Longest Journey/Dreamfall though. :(

I've funded a few things on Kickstarter, and other than the very first one, which is a book that has not been published 2 years after the promise date :banghead:, I've been very pleased.

+10,000 internets to Notch if he manages to get Psychonauts 2 on the table.

I don't know what he'll do with those internets, probably throw them on the pile and shrug.

I just hope this doesn't make a new trend. Might as well make all games F2P if it will take investment money from us to get them made.

Article is a little off. After 8 hours they actually reached over $1 million dollars. Goes to show how much producers know about what the public want
