PNY, a global storage, upgrade and graphics solution manufacturer for both consumers and professionals, today introduced its new Professional SSD (solid state drive) range. Built for enthusiasts, amateurs and professionals alike, the high-end drives are available in 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB capacities. Thanks to decades of experience manufacturing Flash memory and computer components, PNY has created its most advanced generation of SSDs yet.

Jonathan Filleau, Consumer Product Marketing Manager EMEA, said: "PNY today added its fourth generation of SSDs to an already comprehensive range of upgrade and storage solutions. Consumers will be well aware of the experience and expertise at PNY's disposal when dealing with both Flash memory products and components, and should trust that when partnered with SandForce, we have manufactured a robust and reliable product."

3rd vs. 4th gen?

How is this any better than the performance on a top-end 3rd generation SSD like an OCZ Vertex 3? (genuine question, not trying to be overly critical)

not claimed to be 'better'

I did not perceive they were claimiing to be offering a "better" product than the competitors such as the OCZ you cited. This is apparently their first foray into this product level; and calling it their 'professional' series is marketing hype to appeal to a consumer segment they had not appealed much to previously.

Not better; just another player in an already extremely crowded market.
