Leisure Suit Larry Kickstarter Ends With $673k
Apparently a remake of the classic Leisure Suit Larry is in the works. Kickstarter is being instrumental in bringing back games playing on nostalgia, from Tim Schafer adventure games and cyberpunk to post-apocalyptic RPGs and, ah, wank jokes. The campaign to fan-fund Leisure Suit Larry HD, a remake of Al Lowe's sleazy adventure game wrapped up yesterday at $673,602, having passed its goal of $500,000 last week. $655,182 was raised directly through Kickstarter, with the rest coming from Paypal.
While the Kickstarter's now closed, Paypal donations are still open so that total's ticking slowly upwards. However, LSL fell short of its second funding goal. Replay Games was gunning for $750,000, hoping to add new speech, puzzles, cutscenes locations, minigames, "girls" and more if it hit that mark. Still they got close, so one imagines Larry's adventure may be fleshed out a little.Leisure Suit Larry HD is coming to PC, Mac, and Android and iOS devices. The remake was actually announced back in October 2011, to be funded the regular way, but when that fell through they turned to fans.

For example, I'm a fan of the excellent Longest Journey series, and I think those deserve a continuation (note: not a remake) much more than LSL deserve a remake. With rose-tinted glasses on, yes, LSL had occasional comedic value. I don't however think its story deserves to be retold, or offers anything at all to the current gaming landscape.
And don't get me started on how LSL can keep up with LucasArts games. Reminded me that Grim Fandango 2 doesn't exist while LSL HD Remake does won't lower my eyebrows one bit! :banghead:
There's a nice looking zombie game called Zombicide on KickStarter. As you know I am big fan of zombie games, movies, tv series.
If anyone like a nice zombie board game, this one should not be missed. I already pledge at Abom level and my reward is getting sweeter by the hour!
I remember it took me forever to get past the first screen. You had to type "look" or something like that
It's about popularity I guess. That games should be popular but LSL is about sex so that will be more popular.
Don't know why you're mentioning Tim Schafer though, he's not even related to LSL. ;)
Don't drink and post, kids.
If the attractiveness of LSL was solely from the sexual situations and digi-boobs, then Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust should have been highlights in the franchise! And yet, they did poorly. Without the humor, situations, and subtleties that Al Lowe brought to the Laffer series, the Lovage series is the hot chick you can't stand talking to in the morning. Sex can sell, but not alone.
