Diablo 3 Declared 'Fastest Selling PC Game' Ever

From the launch day server meltdown to the way everyone you know seems to be playing, it's pretty clear that Diablo III is quite popular. But just how popular? Blizzard announced today that it sold 3.5 million copies within the first 24 hours, which supposedly makes it the fastest-selling PC game of all time. On top of those 3.5 million copies were another 1.2 million doled out free to World of Warcraft Annual Pass subscribers. After a week, Blizzard says, Diablo III was up to 6.3 million players--not including South Korean game rooms, where it's estimated to have a 39% share. "We're definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo III and jump in the moment it went live," CEO Mike Morhaime said in the announcement.

"We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo III players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward, and I also want to thank them for their ongoing support." As well as rolling out sneaky little balance updates, Blizzard is investigating reports of nasty hacks, and preparing to launch the real-money auction house on May 29.

Yet another game which is a huge success that I will be too ignorant to even think of playing or out of concern that I would get far too addicted to it.

TheMailMan78PC gaming has been on the rise for years. AAA PC exclusives have not. Problem is people don't look at stats of the over all picture. All they see "OMG HALO 15 IS ON MY XBOX-WANNABE PC 500 1337 EDITION! PC GAMING IS DEAD!"
Carmack agrees:cool:

Looks like I'll be waiting until this game is hacked up so there is proper offline play.

Screw this always on connection business.

Yea, I haven't had any DC's or downtime since the 3rd day it came out. The delay could be better, but at peak hours I still get under 200ms to the servers. I see no problem with needing to be online since Multiplayer/Co-Op is such a huge component of the game.

FrickAh just like D2 then.
not exactly - in d2 imo it was enjoyable to farm, here it's just a grind for the sake of a grind. it's not enjoyable to do, so on earth could i get myself to do it for the hundreds of hours i did with d2? i just can't.

Noup. In D2 you were farming for nice items. In D3, nice items are non existent except for 10milion gold crap items found on Auction House...

If it were crap it wouldn't be selling for 10m Gold. The items--in context--are fine. Some of them are itemized kind of strangely (fuck level 50+ Socketed Rings) but as a whole there is definitely a distinguishable difference between a good and bad item, and items make a rather big difference. I was getting 1 shot by Belial on Hell Act II and stopped after 10 attempts, swapped my helm for one with more Vitality, Dex, and Resistance, and I 1 shot him.

People need to take off their Nostalgia Classes and remember D2 was far from a perfect game. I think D3 is definitely more enjoyable.

whats made me sad is that i cant progress atm, because of my level. i do enough DPS, but lack enough armour/HP - and i cant buy items that would boost those stats on the AH without farming heaps of money.

A bunch of clowns in the White House are stripping the general population of our freedom and liberty as I type this message, so there really isn't much to envy.

I never hit a point like that until the one I mentioned. When you get into the harder areas you have to adapt in such ways as becoming more defensive and equipping a shield, or using abilities that you normally wouldn't. There are a ton of good deals to be found on the AH though, I refuse to pay tons of money for slight upgrades, and as such have found plenty of huge DPS\Survivability gains for under 50k Gold, which can easily be made. If you don't want to replay content on the same difficulty and with the same character, you can always role a new character. The money you save by not having to upgrade the blacksmith and gem crafter alone piles up to several hundreds of thousands.
