DOTA 2: Free to Play Confirmed

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today confirmed that Dota 2 will be free to play and announced the Dota Store in preparation for the game's release.

Upon its opening, the Dota Store will offer items created by Valve and members of the community that may be used immediately and carried over after the public launch of the game. Early Access to the game is not required to purchase items before launch. However, gamers may get into the game now by purchasing the Dota 2 Early Access Bundle of items.
"The opening of the Dota Store is a big part of our final push to launch," said IceFrog, design lead on Dota 2. "With support for the Steam Workshop, the majority of the items made available on day one were created and being sold by members of the community. By making the game Free to Play, we hope to give gamers the ability to decide how - and how much - they want to invest in the game."

Targeted for full release on the PC later this year, Dota 2 promises to take the unique blend of online RTS and RPG action that has made Dota popular with tens of millions of gamers around the world.

Later this summer Valve will host the International Dota 2 Championships 2012 in Seattle, WA. For more information on Valve and its games, please visit www.dota2.com

FourstaffLoL holds the advantage of being a more fun game until a certain skill level when DotA 2 takes over as the more entertaining game. I am well past that point, I appreciate the ability to engage and get first blood before the 1 minute mark, the ability to completely change the outcome of the game with a well placed skill, finishing a 40 game with only Boots of Speed, completely denying the gameplan of the opponent's jungler etc. These kinds of things you cannot ever do in LoL, where its about farming, farming, 1 minute teamfights around Dragon and Nashor. Come and think about it the last time I stuck to playing in a lane like how you should do was months ago.
You can get first blood before the 1 min mark, in fact it happens quite often in higher levels of play make that double kills even.
Level 1 Team fights in the jungle and early jungle invades happens all the time in LOL's current meta actually.

hugzGief me Half Life 3 instead of this gay fantasy stuff
I think you are confused, All Video Games are fantasy

1.
imagination, especially when extravagant and unrestrained.
2.
the forming of mental images, especially wondrous or strange fancies; imaginative conceptualizing.
3.
a mental image, especially when unreal or fantastic; vision: a nightmare fantasy.
4.
Psychology . an imagined or conjured up sequence fulfilling a psychological need; daydream.
5.
a hallucination.

FourstaffGame is fun only when you know how to play the game, that is, knowing the 4 abilities of each of the 100+ heroes, knowing roughly how powerful each of the 100+ items are, and knowing which item to buy and how to skill build each hero. Also, some heroes like Lycan or VS plays almost completely different from others you absolutely need to know what to do. I haven't started on what I term "Chinese heroes" eg Windrunner, Leviathan etc, where their role is completely oblivious to anyone unless you know what to do beforehand by reading guides, watching replays etc.

The difference between pro players and noob players is that pro players will always be lucky, surviving with single digit HP, landing a perfect skill, etc.
True, I think the hardest thing for me to grasp was timing for last shots. I think Dota 2 is going to be a staple of my gaming for a while though, it's pretty intriguing.

I've yet to play. Its over 2mins searching for match. I give up for a while after 1min.

Is this only multi right now? No solo play?

Yes indeed. LoL = COD, every one and their dog can enjoy the game. DotA 2 = Battlefield 3, noobs need not apply.
