ASUS Introduces the Designo MX279H and MX239H AH-IPS Frameless Displays

ASUS, a global leader in the new digital era, today announces the launch of the MX279H and MX239H displays. These 27" and 23" displays feature a frameless design with a 178° wide-view angle Advanced-High Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS) panel that provides stunning visuals while Bang & Olufsen ICEpower-derived dual 3 W stereo speakers along with ASUS SonicMaster technology provide a soundtrack to match. These simple but elegant displays provide an immersive home theater experience.

A simple, elegant, and stylish design
The ASUS Designo MX Series displays sport ultra-slim profiles - with the MX239H measuring just 14.5mm at its thinnest point; while the larger MX279H comes in at 17.5 mm - thereby minimizing the desk space required. In addition, the MX Series' edge-to-edge, frameless design has a bezel thickness of only 0.8 mm. This simple but elegant design is further accentuated by a sundial-inspired stand which provides a sturdy base to rest on. The MX Series' design also has garnered accolades at the 2012 Good Design Awards.

Vivid, life-like visuals
The Designo MX Series displays feature an LED-backlit AH-IPS panel with a 178° wide-view angle that minimizes color shift on both horizontal or vertical planes to ensure quality visuals from almost any viewing position. AH-IPS is the latest in IPS technology - delivering improved color accuracy along with increased energy efficiency. In addition, a 5 ms response time also eliminates ghosting and tracers for more fluid visuals.

With the ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR) of 80,000,000:1 and 250 cd/m² of brightness, the MX279H delivers life-like visuals by adjusting backlight luminance to achieve the darkest black and the brightest white shades. ASUS Splendid Video Intelligence Technology ensures vivid colors in every situation, with six modes (Standard/ sRGB/ Scenery/ Theater/ Game/ Night) easily activated via a designated sensor touch hotkey.

Premium SonicMaster audio
These Designo MX Series displays feature ASUS SonicMaster technology - which was co-developed by the ASUS Golden Ear team and Bang & Olufsen ICEpower. This ASUS-exclusive audio technology combines advanced hardware and software to refine every acoustic detail in pristine quality to deliver crystal clear, true-to-life surround sound - reproducing richer and more distinct vocals at a wider frequency range and louder volumes. The Designo MX's embedded ICEpower MobileSound 3 chip delivers incredible audio fidelity to ensure quality audio. ASUS SonicMaster technology, together with the built-in dual 3 W stereo speakers, give these displays the capacity to deliver an immersive home theater audio experience.

Multimedia Enjoyment
The Designo MX Series supports Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolutions and has dual HDMI and D-sub (VGA) input ports to ensure compatibility with a variety of multimedia devices including Blu-ray disc players, game consoles, and digital cameras to enrich users' entertainment experience.

Well I’m not going to disagree with you but just wait until the “down with 1920 x 1080”
zealots hit the thread. They usually hit up a thread in groups,…..beware,….

Personally I am thinking of buying a second Auria EQ276W 27" IPS 2560x1440 Monitor for $399.99 at Microcenter (along with a $38 copy of Windows 8 Pro upgrade and ~$30 60GB SSD). I have Asus VE278Q, VE276Q and VK278Q 27” monitors which are all 1920 x 1080 and in a single triple monitor setup. I’m definitely OK with 1920 x 1080 and can use it every day but any new monitors I get will be 2560x1440 or greater.

Is it just me or I can still see frames? Thin, but not frameless as they claim.

How many monies do they want for this?

I think they made it very visually appealing, but... If they targeted the 3-monitor crowd, why not give us VESA mount options? Those flimsy stands on some (or honestly most) modern monitors make me a very sad panda.... One would think that something like a VESA mount option would not be so hard to include in the package, but obviously holes for screws on the back are so 2008...

I think it's more of a edge-to-edge glass/surface design. But it should still be nicer in a 3 monitor setup than a normally framed monitor.

Very sexy design from Asus on this monitor.

Why in the name of jesus jones do they insist on forcing 1080p on people it makes sense on a 23 and even 24 inch monitor but on a 27 . .. WTF that makes no sense it should have a higher resolution dammit!:shadedshu:nutkick::banghead:

In this case Asus is “offering” a 27” 1920x1080 monitor. It isn’t forcing it on anyone.

I think you misunderstand the concept of sarcasm ( no offense intended ), he wasn't being sarcastic, he was being literal, saying that 27" and 1080p = fail, had he wanted to be sarcastic he might have something like ohhhhhhhh 1080p yeaaaaaaaa definitely don't need any higher res for a 27"+ monitor  just saying he is pissed it's another 27" 1080p monitor and not higher res :toast:

The monitor looks nice, I have to agree with [H]@RD5TUFF though, we should be moving on from 1080p especially where 27"+ monitors are concerned.

What is the reason we can't have a true edge to edge bezel on monitors, at least on the sides and top? it's been how many years and we really haven't moved on from when LCD's first went into mainstream production much aside from LED/IPS and higher res albeit limited to "HD TV"

String of smileys at the end is indicative of sarcasm by my books, but I guess we will only know the truth if we ask him directly.

Definitely would want an ultra-small bezel like that if I were going to run eyefinity. I have a 28" that runs at 1920x1200 and I can't say that it is bad. Yeah, 1440p would be nice, but 1080p still looks plenty good imho. As long as the price is right it shouldn't matter. Keep in mind that the average users most likely could care less about ultra-high resolutions and most likely don't have hardware to drive a beast like that.

All in all, it still looks like a good product if and only if the price is right (meaning it should not have a similar price tag as higher resolution displays.)

Yes sometimes, though there's more to it than that, and the "smilies" were shake head, nut kick and head bang wall lol I take it he is not happy with yet "another" 27" 1080p screen on the market, not a dig just saying :toast:

Right,…..

Well I think there is room in the market for cheaper 27” 1920x1080 monitors like this as well as 2560x1440 and 2560x1600. Fortunately all these options are readily available.

I was going to go buy another 2560x1440 monitor but the effects of hurricane Sandy are still here (I’m referring to the availability of gas specifically) so I’ll wait it out a little longer. The release of yet another 27” 1920x1080 monitor doesn’t effect my buying another 2560x1440 monitor in any way so I don’t see the point in lamenting.
