These are some pretty hefty and serious boards for a processor that I thought wasnt really supposed to be competing with FX in terms of board features. This thing plus a kaveri APU sounds like it could replace the AM3+ and FX side of things altogether... But steamroller is still to come...

It doesn't compete with the FX CPUs as FM2+ is for APUs where as the FX CPUs must be mated to discrete graphics. Eventually AMD's APUs will cover all market segments including the high end sector currently occupied by a discrete CPU/GPU combo. It would be great to see AMD deliver a Steamroller desktop CPU and they might.

Time for a refresh of the FX line too....

Please incorporate everything you have learned since the original release of 990fx....

Perhaps your new power phases can alleviate the LLC issues the current 990 UD line is plagued with....

FX line is already dead and buried. There will be no more classic CPUs from AMD, but only APUs (in BGA package and FM2+ socket) and some ARM microserver chips. Motherboard vendors also stopped developing AM3+ products.

Warsaw and its successors will be the next classic CPUs and FX line.

Is that a new core?

Abu Dhabi (existing Opteron): 32 nm, 12/16 Piledriver cores
Warsaw (Opteron for 2014): 32 nm, 12/16 Piledriver cores

That's just a facelift, not a new CPU. And for the FX line AMD haven't yet announced anything beyond Vishera, and there's a reason for that... They also haven't yet announced any chipsets beyond 990FX, or any platforms beyond Volan (Vishera + 990FX).
