Existing EK-FC R9-290X Series Water Blocks Compatible with AMD Radeon R9 290

EK Water Blocks, Ljubljana based premium water cooling gear manufacturer, is pleased to announce that the existing EK-FC R9-290X series water blocks are compatible with reference design AMD Radeon R9 290 graphics card officially launched on November 5th 2013.

In order to simplify the search for suitable and compatible water block EK has added more than 8 different Radeon R9 290 graphics cards from various manufacturers to EK Cooling Configurator database and compatible graphics cards are being added to the list on daily basis.
About EK-FC R9-290X:
EK-FC R9-290X is an industry first high performance full-cover water block for AMD reference design Radeon R9 290X and -290 graphics card, first released on October 25th 2013. This water block directly cools the GPU, RAM as well as VRM (voltage regulation module) as water flows directly over these critical areas thus allowing the graphics card and it's VRM to remain stable under high overclocks. EK-FC R9-290X water block also features a very high flow design therefore it can be easily used in liquid cooling systems using weaker water pumps. The cooling engine now uses refined, 0.6mm wide microchannel structure to even further improve the heat transfer while not sacrificing the famous low hydraulic restriction design. Made in Slovenia, Europe!

Wasn't it released that the 290 is the exact same card (as far as component layout is concerned) as the 290X? Then of course they fit!

Meh, universal blocks also fit. only need some cheap vrm heatsinks and you are good to go.

The EK 290x/290 block will give you great memory cooling and VRM cooling. If you are going to spend $400-$550 on these cards and plan on water cooling you might as well get a well made water block.

The EK is top notch.

Have fun with the mediocre Vram and VRM cooling. If you go water, do it right and get a full coverage block.

I went a week waiting for my EK block to arrive and in the mean time I tried a Swiftech MCW80 that I had lying around and it would have worked out but I screwed up on my aluminum heat sinks I cut out that didn't let the card sit all the way in the PCI-E slot. Didn't realize what the problem was till I got the EK block then I abandoned the MCW80 block. I keep my MCW80 for when I have a card that I can't find a full cover proper block. Full cover is way better.

If the standard ek 7970 block fits the 290 & the 290x block fits the 290. Would that not mean both blocks will work fine on all 3 cards? I don't see the point in laying out another £80 on a block that has the same layout. Then also have to eBay the older block.

The VRMs only need a simple alu sink, funny you should mention memory cooling ass my two hd6950s actually run at higher Hz than the memory on the 290X (1280 MHz for the 6950 opposed to 1250 MHz for the 290X) and they have next to no heatsink (just a steel plate covering them all) so for the price of a custom made block i can get a 290X under water in stead of a 290 and the aforementioned custom block.

OCing the chip may push the VRMS but the fix is a fan directed at that portion of the card.
