ASUS Introduces the PB287Q 28-Inch UHD Monitor
ASUS today announced the PB287Q True 4K/UHD (ultra-high-definition) monitor, a 28-inch display designed for prosumers and gamers.
The ASUS PB287Q features a 16:9 aspect 28-inch white light emitting diode (WLED) display that delivers next-generation 4K/UHD visuals, with resolutions up to 3840 x 2160. With a pixel density of 157 pixels per inch (PPI), the PB287Q provides four times the pixel density of standard Full HD displays for astonishingly detailed visuals. With 300% more onscreen space than similarly-sized Full HD displays, the ASUS PB287Q provides a larger area for multiple work windows for more productive multitasking.Capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors, the PB287Q delivers outstanding color reproduction and saturation thanks to its 330cd/m² brightness and a 100,000,000:1 ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR). With real 10-bit display colors, PB287Q has smooth color gradations for a more natural-looking transition between hues. The PB287Q also boasts an impressive 1 ms gray-to-gray (GTG) fast response time and a 60 Hz refresh rate for fluid and responsive visuals required by today's games.
Extensive connectivity with 4K/UHD support at 60 Hz
The ASUS PB287Q features extensive connectivity options that include DisplayPort 1.2 for true 4K/UHD content support at refresh rates of up to 60 Hz, two HDMI ports, with the second HDMI port providing MHL support. Users can also use the MHL connector to view content from their mobile device on the PB287Q whilst charging the mobile device at the same time.
There is also Picture-in-Picture (PiP) and Picture-by-Picture (PbP) support, with users being able to switch between video sources easily. PiP mode lets users display content from a second input source in a window placed in one corner of the display; while PbP mode splits the screen down the middle.
ASUS-exclusive technologies for stunning images
The ASUS PB287Q features the new SplendidPlus Video Intelligence Technology that optimizes videos and images by enhancing color brightness, contrast, and sharpness. It features two new modes - Reading and Darkroom - in addition to the Scenery, Standard, Theater, sRGB, Game, and Night View modes found in previous versions. The PB287Q also comes with ASUS EyeCare Technology, which adopts Flicker-free technology and uses DC adjustment backlighting to reduce onscreen flicker and provide a more comfortable viewing experience. ASUS EyeCare Technology also provides the basis for Reading and Darkroom modes in SplendidPlus, these modes effectively reduce the level of blue light to reduce eye strain and fatigue for users.
ASUS VividPixel Technology adds to the PB287Q's crystal-clear and detailed visuals by enhancing image outlines and reducing noise bars.
In addition, ASUS QuickFit Virtual Scale allows users to preview actual-size photos and documents on screen prior to printing. Onscreen square grid overlays provide users with alignment, adding to the overall flexibility and productivity aspects of the PB287Q display.
Ergonomically designed, ultra-slim profile
The PB287Q features a slim, ergonomic design with a full range of swivel, tilt, pivot and height adjustments to provide the user with an ideal viewing position. The PB287Q is also VESA mount compatible for wall or stand mounting.

if it only could be GBr LED backlit...
Not IPS for sure. :D
I have an order in for a Samsung U28D590D at Amazon but it's back ordered. I see now that I can directly order one from Samsung off of their web site. The Samsung U28D590D is $100 USD less but it doesn't have VESA support and has a poorly designed nonadjustable stand. Otherwise its likely very much the same as the ASUS.
Most places selling the Samsung are back ordered or jacking up the price or both. And those that have the Samsung U28D590D in stock are selling the Korean version (with a converter plug for power if you are lucky) with the default menu language in Korean.
The ASUS looks good but the Lenovo looks good on paper too (USB hub and edge to edge glass) and at the same price.
Since the price and availability of the Samsung is so poor I may have no choice but to wait.
However, silly as it may seem, I tend to look for the devil in the details. For example while I forget what the official launch date for the Samsung U28D590D was supposed to be I recall it seeming to be available for sale in the US before I expected it. Fair enough to say that the US market seems to be flooded with Korean version imports not intended for sale in the USA and well above MSRP (opportunistic middlemen) but the price has settled down to MSRP in some cases,...probably in part since you can now order directly from Samsung.
This article cited the following though: At the very least I expect to see some placeholders from retailers / e-tailers citing no stock and or an ETA if the manufacturer is citing availability. Of which I have seen none,.....so far.
Fair enough though, since its reasonable to assume that even when it becomes available, like the Samsung U28D590D, stock will likely be poor and possibly be poached from a different intended region of sale (like Korea) with an inflated sale price well beyond the MSRP.
So probably around ~$1000 USD given that the MSRP for the ASUS is $799.99.
So yeah waiting up to three months or so might be about spot on.
before the Samsung was released I was under the impression that the retail price would be $699.99 USD that's despite a review I read citing something like ~$830 USD MSRP well in advance of the release. That review also made some other mistakes like getting the model number wrong (at least for US sale) which may have caused some confusion for me and others. In the US, I haven't seen any credible sales of the Samsung U28D590D for anything appreciably under the MSRP of $699.99 including the sales direct from Samsung.
I do recall seeing some sales for ~$599.99 but those were either outside the USA (making one wonder about exchange rate accuracy and the like) or were backed by no stock. So for example, Newegg on their US sales site had the Samsung U28D590D for sale for ~$599.99 briefly when they had no stock but shot the price up to ~$750 USD as soon as they did get stock.
The Dell P2815Q 28" 4K monitor has dropped from its introductory ~$699.99 MSRP though or at least some retailers are selling it for ~$599.99 now and rightfully so given that its 30Hz only.
Too bad it doesn't sport HDMI 2.0.
the Asus PB287Q has a 10-bit panel
way better colour for 100USD more
