D-Link Now Shipping the DAP-1650 11AC Dual Band Range Extender

D-Link today announced that the Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Range Extender (DAP-1650) is now shipping. Designed to quickly and easily improve the range and signal strength of an existing home network, the Wireless Range Extender is the perfect solution for bringing fast and reliable Wi-Fi coverage to hard-to-reach areas like upstairs bedrooms, basements and backyards.

Utilizing the latest 11AC Wi-Fi technology, this cylinder-shaped extender delivers ultra-fast wireless speeds perfect for high-bandwidth activities like HD video streaming and online gaming.
To eliminate Wi-Fi interference for faster and more reliable Internet, the Wireless AC1200 Range Extender also features dual-band technology, enabling users to perform simple Internet activities on the 2.4 GHz band, and more demanding activities on the cleaner, interference-free 5GHz band. Additionally, for fast wired connectivity, the Range Extender is equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet ports providing wired speeds of up to 1000 Gbps.

"In addition to 11AC Wi-Fi speeds, what sets the Wireless Range Extender apart from others on the market is its ability to also function as an access point or a media bridge, depending on user needs," said Ken Loyd, director of consumer product marketing, D-Link Systems, Inc. "As an access point, the DAP-1650 connects directly to an existing router to improve its wireless speed and range. In media bridge mode, the DAP-1650 can connect up to four wired devices to a wireless network, making it the perfect solution for those looking to connect an entertainment center or home office. We know no one's home setup is the same, so we're proud to offer a product that is flexible enough to accommodate a range of connectivity needs."

Like all of D-Link's range extenders, the Wireless AC1200 Range Extender is designed to be simple to set up. Featuring a simple one-button installation, users need only press the WPS button on the existing router and then on the extender to sync and instantly increase the coverage of a wireless home network. Users whose routers do not have a WPS button can use a web browser or D-Link's free QRS Mobile app for simple setup.

The unit (DAP-1650) is very light and so is the build quality but for $90 Canadian it gave me less problems than the Asus RT-AC68U that it's working with as a media bridge connecting my AV gear.. Easy set up and works like a charm.

You mean Mbps... no wired gear of that level is capable of 1000Gbps... mabye 1Gbs or even 10 but nowhere near 1000Gbps.
