Akitio Unveils the Thunder2 Quad Mini 12 TB Thunderbolt 2 SSD Storage Solution

Akitio today announced the availability of the new 12 TB Thunder2QUAD Mini Thunderbolt 2 portable storage engineered with 4K workflows in mind. With up to 22 hours of 4K video storage on tap (4096 x 2304, 29.97 fps, 8-bit ProRes 422 HQ) and available as an enclosure only or populated with up to 12 TB of storage (four 2.5" 3 TB SSDs), the Thunder2QUAD mini offers incredible performance and storage capacity with a tiny footprint.

The new QUAD mini features two Thunderbolt 2 ports for both storage and display and can reach speeds of up to 1,375 MB per second. With a size of just 3.75"x4.5"x7.5", the Akitio Thunder2QUAD mini is so small that it can easily fit into almost any bag or case for use in the field and the 12 TB version easily holds enough data for even the most demanding applications.
"The Thunder2QUAD Mini is a real game changer for video professionals", said Richard Wright, VP of Sales & Marketing for Akitio. 12 Terabytes of ultra-high performance portable storage that easily fits in a backpack or hard-case for field shooting, ingest, and editing lets the production crew work anywhere and without the weight and bulk normally associated with 12 TB of storage."

Other great features of the Thunder2QUAD Mini include compatibility with the free Akitio Data Multiplier software that allows a user to copy the contents of one drive onto three other drives simultaneously, thus reducing the time it takes to make back-up copies of content that needs to be shared. It features a large quiet fan to keep the drives cool and uses the same drive trays as the Akitio Thunder Duo and D3.

Price & Availability
The QUAD mini is available now from akitio.com starting at $349.00 (no storage installed, enclosure only) with the 12 TB version retailing for $12,999.00.
