Nintendo sued over possible Wii Remote copyright infringement

California based Interlink Electronics is suing Nintendo for some parts of the Wii Remote that Interlink claims they have already patented. In patent #6,850,221, which was granted in February 2005, Interlink patented a "trigger-operated electronic device", which is only one aspect of the Wii Remote. Interlink is also claiming that the Wii's pointer functionality is infringing copyrights. Interlink wants a trial by jury, and if it wins, they want damage compensation and a ban on the allegedly infringing products.

If it comes to the worst, they will simply work out some royalty scheme.

Trial by Jury? well atleast they didnt wat a year before lodging this claim but a trial by jury is a stupid notion or something s technical as aledged patent infringement

Isn't it funny how these come out when the company is rich or is doing good on a product. Not like there haven't been pictures of the Wiimote for ages and they didn't say anything then. People should be allowed to sue people for sueing just to make money or some common sense to law. Peeps are even patenting things just so anyone else can make anything similar, even if they aren't evergoing to use their patent.

Yes it's fine for Sony to sue Nintendo if they made a WiiStation that uses WiiRay discs and is bundeld with WiiTurismo, but this is stupid, hope they (interlink) lose..

Trial by jury means that they know they dont have a case w.r.t patent law... and are hoping for the "odds" of persuading the jury that they are a little old company run by a mom and pop and are being STOLEN from by a big foreign megacompany.... and they hope the jury will fall for it.

"they want to ban the controller"... I dont think so. They just want a big claim and big royalties.

I hope Nintendo has the balls to countersue for malicious intent... sue them for every last penny PLUS one dollar... to make sure they and their shareholders are put out of business.

i find it amazing that all these company's wait till the product is released and successfully before starting shit basically just proving the point they want money if it was such a big deal they would have contacted Nintendo before they released the wii to work out the problem not after when they think they can make some money and seriously how can u patten a rectangle with a trigger

They screwed themselves by wanting a ban.

They'll never get a ban on a product thats not damaging to people, and already sold several million of.

Letalone the fact they never said anything about it til now.

GG.
