Hold On to Your Wallets: It's the 2017 Steam Summer Sale

Ah June. "Summer," they said. "It will be nice," they said, unknowingly. Many choose this month as the somewhat officially unofficial start of that period where you are expected to go to the beach, enjoy sunbathing, and generally just go out. But those of us in the know, well, know, the truth. The truth is that Summer means bank accounts in distress, wallets screaming not to give way to those $, €, or monetary currency of your choice. Summer means steaming temperatures, and that gives its way to the Steam Summer sale.

It's official. It's started. Already the Steam servers are taking a pounding. Money is flowing in metaphorical rivers, a cascading bluff of hopes and dreams of gamers everywhere towards finding that hidden, discounted gem, or just getting that one amazing game that just came out a few months ago at a steep discount. Luckily, this Summer sale is a little shorter than actual summer. Can you imagine yourselves with three paychecks to burn on building up your games library? And, necessarily, your backlog of games you will never even get to play? Happy days those. Happy days these. Go now. You have until July 5th.

Holy mother of god. This is it I am going home to buy games now.

I am going to pile up on VR games so hard today.

Alright kittens, any good RPG games to recommend? Or just any new games? I just find out my newest game(for traditional gaming, not VR) is actually Nekopara. It has been a while since I gamed seriously. So time to stock up on some good games!

You'd think that by now, after all these years, they would have invested in more mirrors and/or hosting capacity :)

Also, while I tried to reply to you....lol

Yeah, that happened. Ironic, no? Our resident W1zzard just managed to cast a quick spell and that was over (he doesn't even spend mana these days I think...)

The store is usually only overloaded the first day of the sale, after that it is mostly fine. Since the daily/flash deals are gone, it makes really no sense to torture the F5 key :). Just wait an hour or two and it will be normal again.

Yet... Just wait 'till tomorrow.
Almost my entire wishlist is on sale. I have to settle for Fallout 4, DOOM and some random DLC I've been putting on the backburner for the past year.
Had Minerva's Den and Portal 2 in my cart since monday. Got both for $3 and some change, so it was a good thing I waited a bit.

... I need to hide my debit card and ask my ISP to block Steam until the sale is over, cause it's already getting out of hand.

Since Daylies are gone, steam sales stopped being interesting to me. I'd rather try to hunt down a game that is on 75-90% sale for just a few hours, than have everything on 50% sale non stop. [ obviously :P ]

And that's why i can't understand why people threw themselves in it straight from the beginning, overloading the server - those prices are not gonna change for the next week, so why hurry?

Same here. Somehow the excitement is gone for me. Not that I really care, it's good for the wallet :P

Thought about it, but meh. I'll get no less than the same sale and probably even better if I hold out till Black Friday as I always do. There is also the possibility that season passes and extra DLCs will also be bundled/available by then too.

I keep looking at Total War Warhammer... that one I'm debating, not much else yet. I still have quite a few games from previous year's sales that I've barely or never played! LOL.

Stop debating and get it. It is one of the best of the TW series to date. It is the only game of the series which I have done a playthrough with at least 75% of all factions. Almost all of them feel unique.

How about the DLC? I don't quite have the budget for them atm, but are they worth digging into later on?

When I get home, I'll review the ones that I have and let you know which ones are worth it. I bought most of them.

I should mention I'm not a Total War gamer...never really played any of them. Not sure if that holds any weight to this title or not...but I do like the Warhammer setting, more the Sci-Fi 40K, but the battles in this one look amazing! I look forward to hearing your feedback, would you mind posting it in the TPU Strategy thread? Link is in my sig. I don't want to derail this thread too badly.

I also see Dishonored 2 is on sale...hmmm. Damn if I had more money and time...

Already spent $600 on games, almost pulled trigger on the Steam controller.

Damn you Gaben sucking up my savings!

Edit: Finally I am done. Final count $740 worth of game and hardware. Got a steam link and controller in the end. Most of my purchase are VR games, except Prey and Nier:Automata

The biggest issue I have is that it feels as though games are devalued to me when I buy them in bulk.

@Raevenlord That's a great missive and especially like the "hold onto your wallets" in the title. :D

The Division is just £15.99 now so I'm finally gonna buy this game (and probably never get round to actually playing it). I saw a few other games that looked good too. My credit card is gonna be aflame...
