AMD to Include AIO Liquid Coolers with Ryzen Threadripper Processors

In a move that could drown out the value proposition of competing Core X processors even further, AMD is reportedly including all-in-one liquid CPU coolers with its two upcoming Ryzen Threadripper processor models, the 12-core/24-thread 1920X and the 16-core/32-thread 1950X. While in its recent reveal of its first two Ryzen Threadripper SKUs besides Ryzen 3 series, the company did not specify the TDP of its Threadripper chips, older rumors pin the TDP of the 12-core part at 125W, and the 16-core part at 155W, both of which could run comfortably under liquid cooling. This won't be the first time AMD is bundling stock liquid-cooling solutions with its processors. The company bundled liquid coolers with certain high-TDP SKUs of its FX-series 8-core processors (pictured below).

This, combined by the dearth of compatibility announcements by third-party CPU cooler manufacturers for its TR4 socket, could be forcing AMD to take steps to ensure that the first Threadripper owners aren't left without a cooler, more so in maturing markets. Intel's new LGA2066 socket, on which its Core X processors are based, didn't face this problem, as it shares its mount-hole spacing with older LGA2011v3 socket. According to the source, Threadripper could be available in Japan on the 10th of August. This could mean availability in the US from 9th August.

So, the Threadripper will have a "Ryzen FX" designation. Cool.

This is a nice move from AMD, I like the idea, hopefully the price will remain the same

That picture is from the previous 8 core FX lineup.

Definitely a nice move from AMD since there's so little news about aftermarket HSF support for Threadripper

No. It's old (2013) Bulldozer family FX CPU (FX-9590) pic in OP.

I've been deceived! Briefly checked the image and thought, ok, Ryzen is 8 core, didn't occur to me at that moment that Threadripper ones start at higher core counts than 8...

Yeah... Ryzen Threadripper models that will be released this year (August?) it's 16 and 12 cores. - Ryzen Threadripper 1950X (16/32) and Ryzen Threadripper 1920X (12/24)
...and 1 section 120 AIO cooler is not enough for 16 or 12 cores TDP i think :)

At clocks they run stock it probably is. I mean, I'm running 6c/12t CPU overclocked to 4.5GHz on single sized AiO at really low RPM with a single fan. A thick AiO with two fans that run at elevated RPM (AiO's are never quiet out of the box), I think it should work even for so many cores. If EPYC's are rated at 180W max, Threadrippers, while probably lower binned shouldn't exceed this. I think any half decent AiO can cool that.

I believe the price will remain the same and it basically is just because AMD is making lots of profit per cpu anyway, so they might as well add a decent liquid AIO liquid cooler and get more (loyal) customers. Even if there will be different versions, a bundled liquid cooler will still be pretty cool to see. Noctua wouldn't be too happy with included AIO's though, but their high-end aircoolers will beat a 120mm AIO anyway.

For $799 and $999 with AIO LC, wow I guess that is a really nice deal ...

LOL, then buy an air cooler. I don't know what air cooler has a 180W cooling capacity.

Sorry m8 but Zalman has lost its glory years ago. Have fun with replacing those integrated fans etc.

Neat, hopefully cooling performance will be decent.
hapkimanAMD should have held off until winter to release this behemoth. It's gonna be like a small space heater.

Here is the recommended cooler:

You sure you aren't thinking of what someone needs for Skylake-X ;)?

That's nice, but they're bundling a water cooler because no air cooler ever made will do the job. Same as FX 9590 and FX 9370, only use an air cooler if you don't mind throttling and very high temps, otherwise, get over your fear of water and join the community of enthusiasts who value performance over convenience. Also quaint how you "believe in" a low-end Zalman air cooler. I used to believe in the Easter Bunny, but I'm still waiting for my free eggs...

Yes AMD RyZen / Threadripper is a bargain with respect to Intel HEDT offerings.

However, the ~$799 1920X (12 core 24 thread) and the ~$999 1950X (16 core 32 thread) offerings are still more then I am willing to spend at the moment. To be realistic, the entery level AMD Threadripper 1955X and 1955 which are the 10 core 20 thread models respectively would be the only ones I would consider. The assumption there is that prices will be lower. Its my hope that they would be in the ~$499 to ~$599 range.

I'm just being honest with myself,....

By a show of hands, who here is willing to spend ~$799 to ~$999 USD for an AMD Threadripper CPU alone (plus free AIO H2O cooler),.....?

There are a lot of people, myself included, that wouldn't buy an Intel HEDT processor for ~$799 to ~$999 so I don't see why AMD Threadripper would be any different. At that price range I don't necessarily see these as high volume parts.

I think I spent ~$330 for my Intel Core i7 5820K when it first was released and about ~$500 for my Core i7 3930K when it was first released. However, in the case of the i7 3930K I was getting a deal that reduced the price of the Asus P9X79 Deluxe motherboard by 2/3 and I had no expenditures after that.

It's fine as long as the chips are also available without coolers. It's sad how many boxed coolers that are just tossed away.

Lol, its not about what you like or no, its about what you NEED :)

and i believe you will not buy this cpu anyway.

That move is clearly made to troll i9 temps and cooling problems imho, adding even more value to the TR CPUs and more coffins to i9's devaluation coffin.

Except that AMD ryzen coolers can be sold for actual money to people with tray cpu's and an you can do the same with an AIO. If it looks cool, cools well and actually exists, I'm keeping it! At the very least I will have a backup cooler, which never hurts.

Look I have a fx 9370 220w tdp over 4.7 turbo core 4.8, and the zalman cnps 12 x gave pro spent, won the antec 950 it had, in fullstress it reaches 77 degrees!
