Records a 1km radius around your player (that's also the range at which other players render for you)
Allows you to slow down or speed up the demo (x0.25 - x2)
Skip to any point via a timeline, show all Kills on said timeline from any player (in the 1km radius)
Free cam, 3rd person or first person spectate anyone recorded.
Ability to view players in the area via a list and a seperate list showing any current people engaging in battles.
Saves upto 20 demos and deletes the oldest with the ability to lock them ( you can copy demos out of the folder to back them up if you want) each demo from experience is around 1MB per minute.
For something that other games stopped doing, PUBG has done it exceptionally well.
According to the article, it seems to be more than just a video, though.
the replays are saved as a file, and everything within 1KM of your position is visible with freecam - so you can zoom around and watch everything, see what you missed, who was nearby etc
