So I've been looking at ~13" laptops quite a lot in the last couple of months, and I cannot for the life of me tell any difference between this Envy 13 and the ones I've been looking at. Identical design, identical specs. Is this a long-delayed announcement or something?

Seems like staggered launch, I don't see anything different between the 8th gen 13s available now and these either.
Heck the most interesting one of all these is the KabyG found in the 15" spectre 360 but its a pita to actually find and get configured to it.

Yeah, I've heard. That's been available for a few weeks too. Quite a few reviews out. Weird.

Last year's specs? Is anything here not up-to-date?

Have to say the Ryzen Mobile-powered X360 13" is intriguing. Hopefully it has dual channel memory, and decent battery life.

Yeah thats the one that caught my eye as well, will keep an eye out for that one when it comes out.

The x360 you would get the AMD over the intel every time with a 4k Monitor.

Other than the smattering of Ryzen offerings, yeah nothing here is really "new". Lots of refreshed graphics options (GTX 1050, MX 150, etc) and Coffee-Lake parts that are just recuts of last year's initial parts.

Cynicism aside, it's nice to see HP fill the void of compact laptops with dedicated graphics and AiOs with reasonable specs as well. Too many of the last few generation AiOs and compact laptops with dinky 15W parts and no dedicated graphics.

While technically true, you essentially come off as asking for upgrades to parts that don't exist. Can't exactly complain about "last year's parts" when those are the most current versions. As discussed above, this seems less like an actual synchronized product family refresh and more like a post-factual PR announcement to make it seem like a coordinated effort, considering that the 8th-gen equipped Envy 13" has been available for months, the KBL-G equipped x360 15" has been out for a few weeks, and everything else seems to have trickled/be trickling out a bit at a time. HP should probably look into getting its act together a bit, though. Coordinated product launches work well PR-wise.
