EK Water Blocks Launches EK-Vardar Fan Multi-Packs

EK Water Blocks, a European premium computer liquid cooling gear manufacturer, is releasing multi-fan packs of its renowned EK-Vardar fans. Coming in dual and triple sets, these fans were developed in-house and first introduced in 2014. EK-Vardar fans have evolved several times into the EK-Vardar EVO 120ER/140ER Black BB fans with Extended range (ER) of PWM operation and a special Start-Stop function which brings a true 0dB experience for the absolute silent fan operation. The electronics of the ER EVO fan have been made so that the fan stops spinning if the PWM signal falls below a certain duty cycle value. This feature enables you to enjoy a totally silent PC, and it is also very useful for preventing radiator dust buildup in idling PCs and prolongs the lifecycle of the fan itself. BB in the name stands for dual ball bearing which proved having the highest reliability. The fans within the set have varying cable lengths to ensure the least excess cables for the best cable management.

EK-Vardar EVO BB is a high-static pressure computer cooling fan, designed and built primarily for highest-performance computer liquid cooling systems. It uses a dual ball bearing that proved most reliable in industrial systems. The Vardar EVO family of cooling fans carries the notorious name of a type of the cold northwesterly wind blowing from the mountains down to the valleys of Macedonia. It is a type of ravine wind, enhanced by a channeling effect while blowing down through the Moravia-Vardar gap, bringing cold conditions from the north to the Thessaloniki area of Greece. Most frequent during winter, it is blowing in the rear of a depression when atmospheric pressure over eastern Europe is higher than over the Aegean Sea.
The 120 mm models come in packs of two and there, while the 140 mm version of the EK-Vardar fan comes only in a dual set with 2 fans included. The fans have different cable lengths in order to avoid having excess cabling and increase convenience. Each set has the required cable splitter to connect all the fans within the set to a single 4-pin fan header.

Start-Stop Function for Complete Silence!

The unique Start-Stop function featured with the EK-Vardar EVO ER BB models will ensure the user a true 0 dB noise environment. When the fan curve is set with the minimum threshold point below 25-30% PWM duty cycle (depending on the motherboard model), the motor and the electronics will turn off and the fan will simply stop spinning. EK-Vardar EVO BB restarts operation automatically as fan control ramps up its operational duty cycle past threshold start-stop point.

Other key characteristics of EK-Vardar EVO BB fans are:
  • High-static pressure / low noise profile - unlike other general-purpose computer cooling fans, the EK-Vardar EVO BB family of fans is built specifically for computer liquid cooling systems, namely radiator cooling. The 7 fan blade design is optimized for high-pressure operation while maintaining the low noise profile throughout the whole operation range of the fan. Vardar's design and construction are also very suitable for high-performance air coolers or as case fans for restrictive cases with dust filters.
  • High-quality motor and bearing assembly - New electrical design, actively cooled motor windings and reliable dual ball bearing with 50.000 hours life span (MTBF) ensures uninterrupted operation for years to come. Precise Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) for fan speed adjustment allows performance on demand.
  • Sealed-edge fan casing - The classic, yet effective, square shape of the fan casing provides optimal performance in either pull- (suction) or push (pressure) regime without hydraulic losses thus ensuring the optimal cooling capacity of your liquid cooling radiators. The classic shape of the fan frame also allows easy cable routing while grouping more fans on one radiator.
  • Timeless design - The EK-Vardar EVO BB fan fits subtly into any liquid cooling computer without drawing too much attention. Fans are available in a single, all-black color.

2 out 4 purchases for this exact fan had rattling bearings.

I had to look into those... with a professional eye. As I was very very disappointed spending 80€ and having a duds... Especially I have no time to deal with RMA. Posting those things would cost one fan.
  • Keep in mind, that these fans wired 4 in parallel from one PWM header might cease to control on certain motherboards, due to incorrect pullup resistors in the "updated" parts so the open collector logic elevates out of range. Simplest way to FIX it is to add comparator from the header and split PWM for each fan. Making a special Vardar controller, other fans don't suffer from it. I have two 240mm rads in my small PC, so needing to drive from one CPU fan header seems a normal need.
  • The motor switching noise can be reduced with adding additional cap across the 12V line... so they gimped on the value in the first place.
  • The upper inner plastic washer varies in thickness, thus causing incorrect pressure on the end clip also causing bearings to work and the fan doesn't get centrifugal sweet spot.
  • Putting some Swedish Japan made SKF Bearings mitigates the issues at low RPM further.
In the end of the day? Avoid these...
