EA Confirms Battlefield VI, Holiday 2021 Release

EA late last week confirmed that the studio is working on the next chapter in the "Battlefield" franchise, unsurprisingly titled "Battlefield VI." What remains to be seen is the production design, whether EA DICE sticks to its formula of making the next Battlefield a AAA set-piece and technology demonstrator, much like how BFV was among the first games with real-time raytracing, although the mandate from EA CEO appears to favor a "truly next-gen" approach. Pressure from EA's bean-counters will also ride heavy on DICE to make at least one of the components of the game to be e-sports optimized, and feature a battle royale multiplayer mode. We predict the implementation could be similar to the current Call of Duty, which features a nested "Warzone" mode in addition to a AAA campaign experience. EA DICE is targeting a Holiday 2021 tentative release for "Battlefield VI."

Update 08:17 UTC: Apparently the image above is fan-art. EA did not reveal any details about the premise of the game.

At this point in time I have no faith in DICE. Like you said, they're gonna split resources on shitty fad and neglect the core gameplay and traditional modes. And as I've come to learn that the guy behind all their trailers since BF2 left EA so I don't have high hopes for the reveal to be exciting after the BFV debacle.

This is some BAD journalism, this is a community artwork piece.

NO TITLE/SETTING has been confirmed, other than there is a game releasing in Holidays 2021.

What do you mean? EA has confimed the title Battlefield VI and the teaser picture hints at a modern setting.

That's the thing, it's not an official image, it's a fan made image that the person who wrote this article up didn't realise.

Hopefully they'll go back to the origins, to a proper BF, ever since BF3 they just copied COD, and then the stupid auto repair/heal, why we have classes that do that...

I’m almost to that point too. With the exception of hardline and BFV, I really enjoyed all the BF games since 1942. I even grew to like BF1 despite initial bugs and rampant, unchecked cheating online.

The problem is, a lot of the skilled devs and leadership left DICE through the BFV debacle. I don’t know that there is any chance we will get another quality BF game at this point.

For me to even consider it, there would need to be some sort of extreme change of stance regarding cheating by DICE/EA (unlikely) and moving away from the hyper-emphasis on micro transactions for stupid cosmetics (cold-day-in-hell level of unlikely)...

There is no details on setting or war.

During EA's virtual E3 thing they showed an thing from the engine that looked like it might be Vietnam setting though.

Many people like the cosmetics, and I have no problem with EA making money from selling skins. It's the cheating that bothers me. Australia/New Zealand/Antarctica make up the Oceania region and there are hardly any servers to pick from. The next closest servers from me are in Singapore at 132ms where blatant cheating is frequent. I've never seen any cheaters get Fairfight banned, yet I've read about Fairfight banning non-cheaters for running Battlefield V on Linux. I'm glad I wasn't banned for doing the same back in January. The anti-cheat is either offline or useless. For me the most important questions to ask about BF6 concerns the effectiveness of the in-game anti-cheat system. Nothing else matters to me as much as that.

There's nothing wrong with feminism and equality, but the execution must not be out of place and completely retarded.
...just like in V :D

Also, I am really curious when and in what state will World War 3 release. Even the early access was technically ages ahead of Battlefields, but then the development kind of died out and now it's behind closed doors again.

I disagree with the first statement but agree with the 2nd one.

Totally forgot about the WW3 game, whatever happened to it?

If I understand it correctly, the devs got into a deal with a publisher, and it was decided to entirely stop public builds, official dev blogs and any kind of communication. People were theorizing it was done so that people basically forget about the game and it's shortcomings (coming out of the fact it was EA plus some unfortunate decisions), and to have a chance to start anew with a full release, whenever that might happen.
There's definitely a lot of development going on, judging by SteamDB activity.

I am absolutely sure WW3 has the potential to be a BF killer, but it's down to the marketing.
