The Next Battlefield is Battlefield 2042 Set in World War 3
Electronic Arts unveiled the next chapter in its smash-hit online multiplayer FPS, "Battlefield 2042," according to an Origin leak that surfaced on Reddit. The year 2042 may sound arbitrary, but is 100 years prior to 2142, DICE's sci-fi futuristic shooter from the franchise. The premise of Battlefield 2042, set some 2 decades from now, depicts a near-future World War 3, with infantry and mechanized formations using a little more technology, though not quite into the realm of sci-fi. It makes a conservative prediction as to what warfare will look like in 2042, based on how little it's changed in the past 20 years. Like every other Battlefield before it, we expect large multiplayer PvP maps covering the "Conquest" mode Battlefield is known for; along with others such as Rush, TDM, and possibly even Firestorm. The leaker reveals an October 15, 2021 release date for Battlefield 2042.Description texts from the Origin leaks and press release follow.

Battlefield 2042 Marks the Return of All-Out Warfare in New, Unmatched, Epic-Scale Experience
Electronic Arts Inc. and DICE today announced Battlefield 2042, a groundbreaking first-person shooter set to revolutionize the modern multiplayer sandbox. Powered by cutting-edge technology that pushes the capabilities of next generation hardware, the game drops players into a near-future, all-out-war experience that includes the franchise's hallmark, game-changing destruction. Featuring matches filled with up to 128 players on the latest consoles* and PCs, this unprecedented scale adds a new dimension to multiplayer battles. Battlefield 2042 also ups the action with the inclusion of real-time events that reshape the battlefield and tactical combat. All-new weapons, vehicles, and gadgets give players the freedom to be strategic and create jaw-dropping, only-in-Battlefield moments.
In Battlefield 2042, the world is on the brink. Shortages of food, energy, and clean water have led to dozens of failed nations, creating the greatest refugee crisis in human history. Among these Non-Patriated, or No-Pats, are families, farmers, engineers - and even soldiers. Amidst this crisis, the United States and Russia draw the world into an all-out war. No-Pat Specialists join both sides, not fighting for a flag, but for the future of the Non-Patriated in this new world.
Players will jump into the boots of Specialists, an all-new type of playable soldier for the franchise. Inspired by the traditional four Battlefield classes, Specialists will be equipped with their own unique Specialist Trait and Specialty, and will have fully customizable loadouts. As a Specialist, players will have access to a cutting-edge arsenal of weapons, equipment, and vehicles to use in battle. These powerful new tools give creative players a wealth of options as they find the perfect combination to fit their play style and outsmart and outgun opponents on the battlefield.
"Battlefield 2042 is an evolution of the franchise and embraces what our players want - the ultimate Battlefield multiplayer sandbox with intense combat and a ton of incredible, unexpected events," said Oskar Gabrielson, General Manager of DICE. "All of us across DICE in Stockholm, DICE LA, Criterion, and EA Gothenburg have had so much fun developing this game and now it's time to let players jump in. What they'll find is that we've built three distinct, absolutely epic experiences that we think they'll love."
The biggest, most ambitious title in the franchise, Battlefield 2042 includes:
All-Out Warfare - the next generation of fan-favorite modes Conquest and Breakthrough, featuring the largest maps ever for the franchise and for the first time, up to 128 players. Experience the intensity of All-Out Warfare in large-scale battles like never before on maps filled with dynamic weather, dangerous environmental hazards, and spectacular world events that see tornadoes rip across the map and sandstorms block out the sun.
Hazard Zone - an all-new, high-stakes, squad-based game-type for the Battlefield franchise that is a modern take on the multiplayer experience that is distinctly DICE but very different from All-Out Warfare's Conquest or Breakthrough modes.
TO BE ANNOUNCED - the third experience, being developed by DICE LA, is another exciting new game-type for the franchise. This experience is a love letter to Battlefield fans and one that long-time players will feel right at home with. Tune-in to EA Play Live on July 22 for all the details.
Battlefield 2042 is available now for pre-order and is set to launch on retail and digital storefronts on October 22 for $59.99 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, and $69.99 on Xbox Series X and S and PlayStation 5. EA Play members get a 10-hour trial starting Oct 15, 2021. EA Play members and players who pre-order will receive early access to the Open Beta**. Players who pre-order have three different editions to choose from, including the Battlefield 2042 Gold Edition for $89.99 on PC and $99.99 on console, or the Battlefield 2042 Ultimate Edition for $109.99 on PC or $119.99 on console.

"U.S.A. and Russia stand at the brink of war. Proxy wars have waged for decades, generating experienced but displaced combat veterans. These Specialists use their skills to shape the future—a future worth fighting for."
"Battlefield 2042 introduces 7 vast maps for up to 128* players. From Seoul's cities to Egypt's deserts, every map offers a unique experience based on the natural environment."
"Customize weapons, gadgets and vehicles in-battle to tip the scales in your favor. Summon a robotic dog built for battle, employ a grappling hook or don your very own wingsuit."
"Choose your role on the battlefield and form hand-tailored squads through the new Specialist system. Based on Battlefield's four Classes, Specialists have one unique Specialty and Trait - but the rest of the loadout is fully customizable."

OMG never felt such a release after seeing this game images.
Finally ! Finally ! Finally !!!
here, bit of nostaligia:
Looks damn good though.
The jumping off the cliff to start the match. The horrific looking chokepoint "combat" on the container ship (Metro map PTSD anyone?). The ice map which I'm sure will be fun for vehicle-less infantry spawning against prone enemy snipers wearing snow-camo cosmetics.
Yawn.
I admit though, the trailer-ising of the air combat meme made me smirk. Dice always could make a good trailer. You never show China in a trailer these days, only Russia. Russia doesn't have the political clout to affect your corporation for the disrespectful "messaging".
Chinese troops and vehicles will be in the game on 1 or 2 maps, or they'll show up later in a PRC-friendly DLC. Not until the Megazord DLC or the carriers start hovering.
I have maintained for years that Dice is keeping BF2143 in it's back pocket until the technology is capable. Wouldn't be surprised if we see it in the next 4 years now with DLSS, ray-tracing, et cetera.
Releasing it in 2023 is also a marketing meatball too juicy to pass on. Those days are over. This won't be BF2 for Gen Z.
The TTD of BF3, BF4, BFV and BF1 are Exhibits 1 through 4. COD speed is the only speed left.
After BF4, there were only pale shadows of the previous BF games that slowly ate away the BF franchising with reduced concurrent players, clunky weapons, sterile realism, and slow gameplay.
So yeah, I really HOPE with all my heart and soul that it is BF4 again.
That being said this may be interesting. Of course if we see mention of anything from the SJW camp I'm writing this one off like everything else past BFV. As has been covered many times, the portrayal of women on BFV has nothing to do with how women actually fought in WWII. Women did not fight on the front lines going toe to toe alongside their ethnically diverse PoC checkboxes with robot arms.
Of course if BFV has been set as a precursor to the bad company line of games it would have been fine (notice how nobody complains about all the historical inaccuracies in the wolfenstein games, bad company 2, or BF 2142), but the intention here was not to make a decent narrative. No, the intention was to push a SJW woke narrative, that's why their response to why they did this was "this is how we interpret history" and telling people to not buy it if they didnt want it. They put historical revisionism into their game presenting it as historically accurate and hoped nobody would notice, then got pissed when people called them out for it while their fellow wokes didnt spend a dime on it, as usual.
Incidentally BFV's campaign was boring trash. Because wokesters cant write worth a damn. It's all about that agenda, and it doesnt translate to entertaining media.
I played BF2 and I just simply hated it. Of course, that was probably more my own fault because prior to playing it, I played a lot of CoD MW, Black Ops, etc.
Stop the off-topic geo-political comments.
Stop trolling.
Thank You and Have a Great on-topic discussion.
Battlefield 5 was a game. I'm sorry you hate that women were in it? I find it odd that you think the inclusion of women in a WW2 game some sort of "SJW Wokeness", I'm curious to know if you can explain how including women, roughly 50% of the world's population, "ruined" BF5 by its "wokeness".
As for "Robot Arms", Prosthetic arms like the female soldier had in the game existed, and they in fact looked very similar, albeit likely not as functional as the one portrayed in the game. This is a prosthetic arm that existed in the 1920's: lonelytravelog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/dsc3514.jpg?w=750 Looks pretty similar to the one portrayed in the game, does it not?
Anyway, back to the subject at hand, the last time Battlefield was anything near realistic was BF2, that was 15 years ago. This next battlefield will continue to be unrealistic. If you want realism in your shooter, there are plenty out there. Alternatively, you can continue sounding ridiculous complaining about "wokeness" ruining your video games. You do you.
While I don't adhere to the SJW ideals, those who suddenly became historians (weirdly none of them noticed the absence of the Great Patriotic War which is basically ww2 in Europe) and criticised developers for including women. It shows their hypocrisy in a similar way to pro-lifers and homophobes.
Just don't play as a woman or don't play the game, but don't pretend suddenly to be an expert on ww2.
