Alphacool Unveils Enterprise Series D-Plug Connectors

Alphacool today presents the D-Plug, a new connector from the ENTERPRISE SOLUTIONS series. The ES D-Plug has 2 G1/4" external threads and offers the possibility to connect components such as graphics cards, CPU coolers or radiators to each other within the cooling loop. The special feature of the D-Plug is that they are push-fit rather than screwed together. Each D-Plug has a variable length which can be achieved by pulling the connector apart, an extension of up to 15 mm is possible. The additional length available allows a high degree of flexibility in compensating for inaccuracies in the system design. The lack of a screw connection prevents the possible twisting of hoses during installation.

Of course, the connector has been extensively tested in the Alphacool lab with the result that the D-Plug is stable up to 1.5 Bar. The ES D-Plug is available in lengths of 20 mm, 25.5 mm and 31.5 mm - optionally in brilliant chrome or matte black.

No it's basically a variable extension module with o-rings for a push fit in the middle. Clicking on the Alphacool link gets you another picture that actually details the function.

tried the link, it just goes to a page selling them. never looked at the pics for one of them.

This looks brilliant. I might get one or two of these, as they could replace some silly parts of my loop. A bit scary, obviously, but I should manage not to yank them off inadvertently :P

This is fine for home computer, but I would not put any extension tube in a 100k server. I needs to be tubes or soldered copper. I can just see leaks happening after thousands of hours in a rack with vibration.

Given that this is meant to fit between fixed components - i.e. two GPUs, a rad and a pump, of something like that, I see no reason why vibration would affect this negatively. If you have enough vibration to shift your hardware >15mm in your server, you have worse problems than a leak risk, as you'll likely start seeing failed solder joints sooner rather than later.

For industrial applications industries should be using Swagelok or something similar. Using consumer hardware is beyond foolish (penny wise, pound poor) and I am highly skeptical that Alphacool would market this to the enterprise sectors.

First sentence of the news post. For a minor component like this, only meant to connect two otherwise fixed components together with some adjustment for the distance between them, I really can't see how this being similar to a consumer design would make any difference. Of course it's not suited for a high pressure loop - they state as much themselves - but this is two threaded brass tubes and four o-rings. There really isn't much that can fail.
