So, tablets are being masked, or renamed, as gaming handheld devices now, eh?!

If that's the case, then why bother with these overpriced inferior "handheld" devices over the upcoming iPad w/M2-Pro?

Well, I'll reserve that impression until later on this 2nd-half of the year when the iPad M2-Pro (or Max or both) and its specs are officially announced.

Where are you getting this idea from? These devices run x86 PC based hardware and sport active cooling. They are nothing like tablets. Mini PCs sold as "gaming" devices also predate tablets by some time. The have nothing in common with tablets.

There are, but that's not what this article is about, handheld gaming devices based off ARM type SOCs which I guess you "might" could make the argument but again, this goes back a long time. And these are strictly emulation devices that come in form factors that are copied off the PSP or other well known portable gaming devices. They give you tactile buttons, SD card access, and are sort of aping a raspberryPI loaded with roms. They are also cheaper than iPad, let alone an iPad pro, and come with buttons. If you are on a train, plane, or subway iPad Pro with controller sucks or is not workable at all.

What's that got to do with a user buying this to play PC game's.

That's like saying all phones are shit get an iPad with M2?!

I mean yeah, perhaps, but people buy phones because they suit that USE case.

The AMD offerings are the only real choice this round, and I'd be real tempted to get one if I wasn't already on the Deck's wait list for this month.

It also heavily reminds me of a supersized, super-powered GameBoy Advance SP, which tickles the nostalgic childhood within me.

1600p screen!!! Why not put 2160p screen instead. The Radeon 680M with 15-20W power budget will have pleasant time drive PC game at 1600p resolution. And also 32GiB RAM is kind of waste in these system.

Probably because it's a 10" screen and 2160p won't look any different to 1600p at that size other than being more choppy.
32GB ram is totally fine if you're going to do dual use (again not great on 10" screen) for photography/video or productivity.
