This Week in Gaming (Week 6)

With the current cold spell in much of the northern hemisphere, it might be a good time to stay at home and play some games. This week's AAA release involves wizards and the game has racked up a bit of controversy before it even launched, for reasons that we won't go into here.

Hogwarts Legacy / This week's AAA title / Friday 10 February
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover magical beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents and become the wizard you want to be.
The Utility Room (VR) / Monday 6 February
You have been travelling for 3 million years across space to the edge of the Universe. In that time, you have become very strange. Your body is... different from how it once was but you are excited nonetheless. Your destination is the entrance to 'The Utility Room', a famous cosmic landmark many know of but never visit. Beyond the door, a supreme being known only as "Bin man" oversees the maintenance and heavy lifting required to keep existence stable and temporal. It is rumoured that he was personally employed 13.8 billion years ago as the cosmic caretaker.
Scorchlands / Tuesday 7 February
The gears of the economy are oiled with magic. Build colonies, connect them with lasers, discover new tech and terraform a hostile moon. Enchanted items will be useful when encountering monsters, but magic tools are not just flashy weapons. They are the fuel which makes wealth and resources flow.
Drawing From Memory / Wednesday 8 February
Drawing from Memory is an online party game where you and 2-4 friends try to figure out what your most and least favorite characters look like by Drawing them from Memory.
Barkhan / Thursday 9 February
A harsh sand planet has become the stage for a brutal war between three Great Clans. For the power over rare minerals each wants to prove their superiority. In the heat of dynamic battles with the enemy's troops, be prepared to face and attack giant Sand Snakes.
Bumblebee - Little Bee Adventure / Friday 10 February
Bumblebee - Little Bee Adventure is a story-driven, narrative 3D flight exploration game in which you control a little bee on its journey to find a new home. On its quest to find a beautiful and fitting it discovers distant places, friendly and calm animals, and amazing and dangerous habitats.

Oh, damn
Barkhan reminds me of my childhood. Dune 2000 was the first PC game I ever bought. I spent well over a thousand hours with it.

It's a shame that The Utility Room is VR only. :( It sounds like the most interesting concept of a game in ages.

Hum, not agree with you on that one ;)
I think without VR it will lost many of interest.

I rembember Here They Lies on PSVR, a kind of walking sim in a very strage "city", really great in VR, and boring without.

I see what you mean, but I don't have a VR headset, but want to play the game. :D

I'm very excited for Hogwarts Legacy but I'll wait for how it ends out, it's a Warner Bros game, it's not a company I'd thrust to put out something decent or without a lot of predatory monetization crap

To be fair, I think LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a WB game and it's one of the best in the entire series (been playing them since the first one on the Gamecube). But I will say it was a bit shitty of them to lock a bunch of characters behind a DLC paywall when they should've come standard. But this practice is pretty stand within the industry as a whole now, unfortunately.

That's one lazy Dune rip off.

Voted for Hogwarts because some guy I know from work is excited about it. I was never into HP, not my cup of tea.

AusWolfDevelopers should announce such news more often, imo. I'd rather wait and get a decent game than play a half-assed beta now.
Same.
Do you have Cyberpunk 2077 in mind ? :D It seems the game meets their standards now they removed a lot of pedestrians and traffics compared to version 1.something...oh well.

I didn't have any specific game in mind, but could have. :D To be honest, I didn't start playing Cyberpunk 2077 before patch 1.2.something, and it was quite decent then. Not perfect, but decent. :)

Very excited for Hogwarts, it looks like the IP was finally put in the hands of a developer who cares about putting out a good product. Haven't played a HP game since PS1 and am looking forward to playing on the couch with my future wife :)
