AMD Releases Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart-specific Graphics Drivers

AMD just released a special version of its Adrenalin graphics drivers with specific optimization for "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart." The company's recent 23.7.2 WHQL drivers lacked day-zero optimization for the game, which caused some controversy, especially given that real time ray tracing in the game wouldn't work. The one-off drivers carry the version number 23.10.23.03, and come with optimization for the game. They also address the application crash and driver timeout issues noticed when running the game with ray tracing and DSR enabled. Since these drivers are not a part of the main driver trunk of AMD Software, we will not be hosting them.

DOWNLOAD: AMD Software Adrenalin 23.10.23.03 Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Drivers
Highlights
  • Support for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Fixed Issues
  • Application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart with ray tracing and Dynamic Resolution Scaling enabled on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
Known Issues
  • Performance Metrics Overlay may report N/A for FPS on various games.
  • High idle power has situationally been observed when using select multi-display setups with mixed high-resolution and high refresh rate displays on Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs.
  • Intermittent corruption may be observed playing Rocket League with Bloom set to Off on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon RX 6900 XT.
  • Intermittent application hang for a few seconds may be observed while playing RuneScape on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon RX 5700 XT.
  • Audio may intermittently become out of sync with video when recording from AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition with AV1 codec.
  • Performance drop may be experienced for DirectX 11 games on AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT when AMD SmartAccess Memory is Enabled. As a temporary workaround, users encountering this are recommended to disable SmartAccess Memory in the Performance Tuning Page.

My guess is these fixes will be included in regular WHQL updates in the future though, if not, then I hope this having to download a specific driver for a specific game doesn't happen too often... cause yikes.

Think of these as hotfix drivers. The changes will certainly be included in the next WHQL driver. It's also interesting that these drivers aren't RDNA3 specific.

I don't have this game yet so I will wait until these fixed are rolled into the 23.8.1 drivers.

Not missing much. It crashed to my desktop 3 times in the first hour with my RTX 4070. Uninstalled. Refunded. As usual with PC gaming, just play the game in month 2 or 3. Avoid the first month.

I tried the driver just now but the ray tracing tab is still blocked out

once raytracing gets enabled ill retest

with ray tracing and DSR enabled
Its DRS not DSR

DRS = dynamic resolution scaling
DSR = dynamic super resolution (NV driver feature for SSAA)

I'm really interested to see the ray tracing performance of the 7900 XT/XTX in this game.

@wolf I agree that this doesn't fit Nvidia's modus operandi. As you said, they assist in optimizations for their hardware. I don't think the crash was related to Nvidia sponsorship. I suspect that the cause is one of the following, in order of likelihood:
  1. bug in Nixxes' ray tracing code: AMD and Nvidia have been known to handle buggy code differently
  2. bug in AMD's driver: given that there is a long list of games with ray tracing and AMD usually renders them fine at lower performance than Nvidia this one seems unlikelier than the first one
  3. bug in both the driver and Nixxes's code

Until now i just stick to the 23.2.2 and no problem at all games (doesnt need ray tracing though because i use rx 6600 that relatively weak for RT)
