Dune: Awakening Release Date and Price Revealed, Character Creation Now Live!

Today, Funcom finally lifted the veil on Dune: Awakening's release date. The open world, multiplayer survival game set on Arrakis will come to Steam on May 20! Players can begin their journey today by diving into the brand-new Character Creation & Benchmark Mode, available now through Steam. Created characters can then be imported into Dune: Awakening at launch.

Inspired by Frank Herbert's legendary sci-fi novel and Legendary Entertainment's award-winning films, Dune: Awakening is crafted by Funcom's veteran developers to deliver an experience that resonates with both Dune enthusiasts and survival game fans alike. Get ready to step into the biggest Dune game ever made with today's trailer.
The base game is priced at $49.99/€49.99, with pre-orders starting soon. Players who pre-order Dune: Awakening will also receive the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, a beautiful in-base decoration which houses the iconic desert mouse. Observe him well as he goes about his life, for he is wise in the ways of the desert.
Download Dune: Awakening's full Character Creator & Benchmark Mode today to receive a code for the exclusive Frameblade knife skin that can be redeemed in the game at launch. Once created, the character can be saved and later imported into the game at launch.
Put your hand in the box. Prepare for your epic rise to greatness on Arrakis by taking the Gom Jabbar test and creating your character. Fine-tune every aspect of your looks, then choose your home planet, caste, and mentor, be it Swordmaster, Bene Gesserit, Mentat, or Trooper. The final choice determines your starting abilities, but you will gain access to every School eventually, and can even mix and match abilities from any of them.

In addition to character creation, the benchmark mode lets you check your hardware performance and system compatibility while being treated to some epic scenes from the game, including soaring with an ornithopter and a dramatic encounter with a colossal sandworm.
Dune: Awakening is the most ambitious survival game ever made, set on the most dangerous planet in the universe, Arrakis. Whether a Dune fan or not, the vast world will immerse you in an epic experience that draws from both Frank Herbert's sci-fi masterpiece and Denis Villeneuve's blockbuster movies. Embark on a journey from scavenging and survival to controlling the planet itself.

The spice will flow on May 20 when Dune: Awakening launches on Steam. Download the Character Creator & Benchmark Mode to begin your journey now and hit the sand running at launch.

"Open world survival game" set in that world is something I don't get, because you don't survive in that world, not in the way open world suvival games do it anyway.

I mean Arrakis is just one big desert. Not exactly an appealing "open world" I mean huge Dune fan(Lynch version) but I can't see running around the same sand over and over doesn't really excite me...

So 1 graphical effect looks a little dated and thats enough to turn you off from the entire game?

Tried the benchmark. Note that DLSS can't be disabled.

Perhaps you are right and I should give it more of a chance. I will add the demo to my Steam account to try at a later date. I love that demo's have made a comeback. I have an entire category in my steam library now for demo's only. Just search library for demo, and add them all to new collection renamed demos. Makes life easier, and gives me some of those nostalgia feels having my demo's all in one place like back in the day.

Would it force FSR on AMD and XeSS on Intel?

Just tested, The graphics presets lock you into FSR3 and Frame Gen.

But the custom profile lets you turn these off.

Can't say too much about this game given I've been in the closed beta and am under NDA; what I can say is that if you enjoy the Dune universe and want a survival game that is actually a challenge to survive in, this one's for you.

Well, it isn't unlike the Monster Hunter Wilds benchmark also assuming the respective upscalers using its presets, but not their FG. Also, you can change the upscaler setting (from AA to off), but then it becomes Custom setting.
