Intel X48 Coming - Slightly Faster Than X38

Rumors have started circulating about Intel's new X48 chipset. The new chipset is said to be faster and offer better overclocking than the previous X38, which should be coming this week. The X48 plans to appear only a few short weeks after the X38 is launched.

XD if X38 runs the new G0 chips and penryn chips to the fsbwall.....X48 will be almost pointless unless you are going for world records.

AMD's lineup certainly is a factor in Intel's latest run, but shouldn't it be AMD the one to be releasing their already delayed processors by this time? I mean, at this pace Intel will be at least one generation ahead of phenom by the time it's released...

Ive already gone console. But anywho, this would trump the X38 and there wouldnt be a point in the x38 coming out.

The X48 is just a speed binned version of the X38....Long story short it will overclock like crazy but have a big price tag on it.

I say no as well, i've gone back to PC gaming. You have M$ who's selling Yugo's and the PS3 ain't worth the hype.

What PC gamer is going to buy it? DDR3 is a pure bust right now and cost is to high to buy it. I have found no tangible performance benefits with DDR3 other then the fact that you can OC it. Now if X38 or X48 allows the use of DDR2 it maybe worth while...if you are so inclined to upgrade. Also with the early reviews of Wolfdale and Yorkfield they offer minimal improvements over C2D and C2Q. However, they OC with lower voltage and thus a bit cooler (which means nothing when you already water cool, for example). Be that as it may, as it stands now there is no real benefit this upgrade path at this time (when price is an issue). The benefits if any, are minimal at best when compared to how much you will spend on new Penryn, DDR3 and Bearlake chipset MB vs C2D/C2Q, DDR2 and 975/965 chipset MB.

why don't they just skip the x38 than and go for the better one? but if they did that than they would lose out on money. AMD needs to just get there new chip-set and CPUs put and wipe the floor with Intel but i don't think that will happen. The only way to find out is to wait.

X38 are likely (not confirmed yet) speed bins of X48 that failed to reach the higher clocks, they are the same chipset with the X48 being the best hand picked samples. ;)
