Demonoid Back Online; Blocks North American Users to Avoid Legal Troubles

Last week, Demonoid was down for quite some time, and everyone seemed to think it was due to the Canadian Recording Industry Association. Demonoid is back with a vengeance, and proudly proclaims they were not shut down, rather, they merely had a bit of server trouble. However, to avoid future issues with the CRIA (and possibly the American RIAA), they are prohibiting anyone from North America to access their tracker. ISOHunt.com and it's partners have followed suit, presumably for the same reasons.

Write your congressman to respect common-carrier laws in respect to telecommunications. Or move to another country, your choice.

This may be a dumb question, but does this mean that Americans can no longer use the site period?

I never used the green demon, didn't like the concept of having to register there to use it. I prefer a certain bay of pirates that would never yield to the recording industry. :rockout:

The benfit to using a tracker like Demonoid, is that fakes and spam are quickly dealt with, and the speed is generally better. It's also not flooded with porn. Well worth signing up for. Oh, and recently, they've been allowing unregistered users access to all torrents 2 weeks old and newer.

@Zek (and everyone else) - The article doesn't say anything about North America being blocked from demonoid, it says only Canada. I can confirm that my client still connects to the tracker just fine.

LOL, no. My ratio on Demonoid is good. There was only one other peer on that torrent, and he finished well before I did. It was upped by someone last year sometime, just got it a few weeks ago.

And confirmation that it effects Canada only. Quoted from their front page:
Downtime

We received a letter from a lawyer represeting the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and we need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this.

Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience.

Ive never been able to get in on Demonoid, because I dont know anyone who would INVITE ME!!! ::nudge nudge, wink wink:: however, private trackers are one of the best. Im currently on Araditracker and they got most of everything I ever need.

Yeah it blocks me when I try to get into Demonoid.
But a proxy works so it's not a huge deal...
